Ingredients
  • 3kg chicken parts. The original recipe called for feet but I usually use wings. You can also use a whole chicken.
  • 2 large onions
  • 4 Carrots
  • 2 tablespoons of ground Ginger. (It sounds like a lot but it isnt.)
  • A few bayleaves
  • a few peppercorns
  • 1/2 cup of chopped parsley.
  • Water

Directions
  1. cut onions coarsely . (1/8 th's)
  2. Peel carrots and cut into segments . (about 5c"m each)
  3. Spread ginger over all the pieces of chicken
  4. Put everything in a large pot.
  5. Fill with water and bring to the boil.
  6. With a spoon remove all the "stuff" that floats to the top.
  7. Set flame to low and partially cover pot.
  8. Cook for at least two hours . (the longer it cooks, the more taste you get).
  9. Remove pieces of chicken from pot.
  10. *****************************************************************
  11. SUGGESTIONS:
  12. If you cook it long enough you won't need to add anything
  13. Add soup powder to reduce cooking time.
  14. If you use a whole chicken, It is a meal in itself after you remove it from the soup.
  15. If you use wings, Put them under the grill for a minute or two, (DELICIOUS)
  16. Have you ever eaten the meat right off the neck? TRY IT!

Hey, Ronny. The neck is my father's favorite part. We always have to save it for him. :)

Hello...
Thank-you for sharing this "5"FORK!!!!!
'Chicken Soup' recipe!..It is the Ginger that
'sets this chicken soup recipe apart
from others I have tried. I imagine the
medicinal properties in the Ginger is why
it is so good.

Great recipe. And just too funny about the Jewish comments. As I read it, I could hear the accent. Now that's funny. Thanks
Have a grand cooking day.
JJ

Thank you much.... Gotta have the feet, my friends Grandma would be proud! And yes, she sounded like that! Along with .... Eat... eat... it's the soup. Now I remember her blanching the feet... and she always said.. she scrubbed the toes! All I know, it was so rich and good.

Such good soup! I have had the distinct pleasure of being surrounded by jewish grandmothers as a child. They would love this one, or claim you copied theirs! LOL Thank you for posting :-) and don't forget to skim the fat off the top the next day to put on your breakfast toast!

Thanks tazoncaffeine! The fat for the toast is the SHMALTS recipe .
By the way ! They copied mine.
