Baked Onion Soup
From littlemissey 15 years agoIngredients
- 6 tablespoons butter shopping list
- About 4 cups sliced (thin) sweet onions shopping list
- 5-6 cans of Swanson beef broth (or 2-3 large boxes, Swanson) shopping list
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper (I use more because I like pepper) shopping list
- 2 tablespoons flour shopping list
- small loaf French bread shopping list
- sliced swiss cheese shopping list
How to make it
- Melt butter in heavy stock pot.
- Saute onions over medium-low heat until light brown, 10-12 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over onions, mix in slowly.
- Stir in beef broth, vinegar, salt & pepper (the smell of the vinegar will disappear as it cooks).
- Bring it to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 10-15 minutes.
- Place your sliced bread in oven-safe bowls, ladel soup over bread & place a slice of cheese on top of bowl.
- Bake until cheese melts, about 5 minutes (350 degrees).
- Some like bread toasted first, up to you. If you have some leftover, it's better to heat up on stove first then just microwave it to melt your cheese.
