Simple Kitchen Tips
From pink 15 years agoIngredients
- Dropped an egg on the Floor? No problem! shopping list
- An easy way to clean up a cracked egg off the floor or counter is to pour salt on it. The salt absorbs the egg whites and makes it simple to wipe up. shopping list
- Never Again Have noodles Stick Together shopping list
- When boiling noodles in water, they have the tendency to stick together. By adding 1-2 T. of oil to the water before putting in the noodles, it will greatly reduce the risk of the noodles bonding to each other. shopping list
- Measuring honey shopping list
- A nice way to keep honey from sticking to your measuring cup is to put water or oil (called for in the recipe) into the cup first, then add the honey. It should pour out with ease. shopping list
- Easy Way to Wash green beans shopping list
- Do you have green beans galore? Wash them in the clothes washing machine on the gentle cycle, with cold water (no soap please!), and you are ready to prepare them. shopping list
- Cutting corn off the Cob shopping list
- When cutting sweet corn off the ear, use an angel food cake pan and an electric knife. Place heel of cob on cake pan tube, hold the ear in place and cut off corn. Tube holds cob securely, and the cake pan catches the corn neatly. (For a yummy frozen corn recipe with no hot cobs or burned fingers, look under Freezing and Canning Recipes.) shopping list
- Canning Lids and Seals shopping list
- To keep canning lids and seals hot during canning process, put in a crock pot, on low, with water. Check the temperature of the water with a meat thermometer to make sure your crock pot is the correct temperature (no higher than 180 degrees). If your crock gets too hot, simply turn it off and the heated stone crock will keep the lids warm for a long time. shopping list
- More Hours in Your Day Thanksgiving turkey (unless you desire a table presentation) shopping list
- Cook your turkey the day before you are serving it. Carve your turkey as usual. Refrigerate. The morning you are serving the turkey: place meat in crock pot with one regular can of chicken broth (or 2 c. of homemade stock). Cook on high for 1 hour and then on low until ready to serve (about three to four hours). Always moist and tender. Don't forget to boil the remaining turkey bones with about a gallon of water. The extra cooking makes removing the remaining meat very easy, and also provides you with a rich stock that you can use for turkey soup. shopping list
- Neat Salad eggs shopping list
- Prepare eggs as usual. Place egg filling in a small sandwich bag. Cut off one corner of the bag and squeeze filling into egg halves like a pastry bag. Throw the bag away! No clean-up. shopping list
- Hard boiled eggs with No Green Yolks shopping list
- Place eggs in cold water. Bring to a full boil. Cover and remove from heat. Let stand 10 minutes, drain water off and cover with cold water. shopping list
How to make it
- To Mend a Crack in a China Cup
- Immerse the cup in a pan of milk. Simmer for 3/4 of an hour. Wash and dry the cup. The protein in the milk is what does the trick.
- Is your soup too salty?
- Place a couple of whole, peeled potatoes in your soup. The potatoes will absorb most of the salt. Discard potatoes when they are cooked.
- For a Nice Rising Yeast Bread
- When making yeast bread, heat the liquid to 130° F. Place kneaded dough in a warm place to rise until almost double the original size. It will give you a nice fluffy loaf.
- Scratches on Corelle Plates
- To get rid of gray scratches on Corelle plates from silverware, use a dish rag and some baking soda. With a little elbow grease, it should come right off.
- Hope these help.
