Another great recipe I got from the Greek festival I went to not long ago....Don't know what it's really called but Goulash sounded good

Ingredients
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 large garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 2 tbls. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. mint leaves, dried
  • 1 tbls. cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • 1 lg. can diced tomatoes, undrained (28 oz.) I used 2 15 oz. cans
  • 1 15 oz. can chickpeas
  • 1 15 oz. can dark-red kidney beans, I used light red
  • 2 tsp. honey
  • I box macaroni, cooked
  • Scallions, chopped
  • Feta cheese, crumbled
  • Greek olives, chopped

Directions
  1. Brown ground beef, onion and garlic in saucepan until beef is browned
  2. Add chili powder,oregano, cinnamon, and cocoa and cook 1 to 2 minutes longer
  3. Stir in tomatoes, beans and honey
  4. Heat to boil
  5. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, 15 minutes
  6. Uncover and simmer another 15 minutes or so
  7. Serve in bowls over warm macaroni
  8. Garnish with scallions, cheese and olives

The cinnamon makes the difference. Wonderful post, very much a favorite. YUM.


I've been making Czech goulash; now can't wait to try Greek goulash. Hungarian anyone?
