Ingredients

How to make it

  • In skillet, cook diced bacon and onion until onion is tender and bacon is cooked, but not crisp.
  • Meanwhile, add remaining ingredients other than mustard, salt and peppers, to slow cooker that's been sprayed with no stick spray.
  • Add bacon and onion and stir to combine ingredients.
  • Cook on low about 8 hours, seasoning with remaining seasonings about half way through cooking time, then taste every couple hours, if possible, and continue to season, as needed.

I have edited the time of these since several have had to cook them longer than the 8-10 hours I originally posted. I would still recommend checking them starting at 9 hours, just in case, but don't plan on them before 11. I'm sorry for any inconvenience, and I appreciate all the replies! :)

Good flavor. Went 12 hours on the crock. Only used 1/4t cayenne.

I made these over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to make. It took me a little longer than ten hours, but have determined that my slow cooker is a super slow cooker! If I make them again, I'll be adding more cayenne pepper. I used 1 tsp, and they could have used more of a kick. Tangy, sweet and delicious! My pic will follow, once I've downloaded it from the camera.

I always make beans for our family get-togethers as my father loves them although he is really picky! He loved these! So did the whole crowd. When my dad wants the leftovers, I know I've done good. My beans took 11 hours to cook, however I have found with my crockpot that cooking beans on low does take that long so I planned for it. They weren't done at 8 hours. That may be just my pot though. Didn't add cayenne and only half the vinegar (Dad again). Added my picture! Thanks for the success! P.S Spraying the cooker worked out great - no scrubbing after! Loved that, too!

Great beans Keni. I also like to add chopped fire roasted chilis to ours (Paleeeeze, can I?) Love the cayenne idea, though, never tried it. Thanks! ;')
