Buttermilk Doughnuts

- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/4 cup shortening, melted shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 4 cups flour shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking powder shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 1 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oil to 375
- In mixing bowl, beat eggs
- Add sugar and beat well
- Add shortening and mix
- Add buttermilk and mix
- Sift remaining dry ingredients into another mixing bowl
- Add to egg mixture and mix completely together
- Roll out onto floured board and cut into 48 doughnuts
- Let sit for 10 minutes
- Fry and turn over to fry other side when golden brown
- Drain on paper towel

I love the sound of these doughnuts & I'll be making them in the next couple of days. I have buttermilk left over from another recipe & I wondered what I was going to do with it, so this recipe is just perfect. Definately a 5 for a wonderful treat.

The kids declared these beyond fantastic and I wasn't so sure I could fry as fast as they were eating them. They ate over half the batch for our breakfast for dinner. Part of the rest went with two of the girls to a sleep over. Thanks much.
