    Homemade Flour Tortillas! Oh-Lay! :)

    Homemade Flour Tortillas

I am sooooooooo proud of myself! First off.....nice flour tortillas are impossible to find in the grocery stores here and the ones you buy prepackaged in the grocery stores are gross thin cardboardy tasting things. They're horrid. So...when I need proper tortillas for a recipe then I go to a local Tex Mex Restaurant here in Ottawa that makes them fresh on the spot..."The Lone Star". And their's are amazing.
    I have made
    Turkey Enchilladas Verde
numerous times over the last few years and it's coming up on my menu again in a couple of days.
We were talking about homemade tortillas in ODD recently and someone said how easy they were to do so I decided to give it a whirl myself.
How fun! Very similar to making a crepe although the batter/dough is certainly way thicker....but really...similar cooking concept. I haven't tasted these yet but they look good and perhaps they feel a little heavier than the ones we're used to from the restaurant...but hey...it's my first attempt.
I just used regular salt as opposed to kosher but other than that I remained faithful to the recipe and I did indeed get six 8" torts out of it. Sooooo excited! :)
Thank you Luisa and thanks ODD'ers for giving me the push to give it a try! :)

they looks FANTASTIC! A lot of people on the 1st time aren't sure exactly how thin to roll so no worries! They'll be even more fabulous next time. Now you can make chimichangas, quesadillas, flautas... have fun and thanks for sharing <3

Had these tonight. They're FABULOUS! And just as good as the ones I used to buy in the restaurant. I'm floored. Very well may never buy another one again!
I'm going to have to google flautas Luisa as I don't have a clue what that is. :)
This first batch might be a teenier bit heavier but I'll roll the dough out on the next batch just a tad more and we'll be at perfection.
    Guys.....MAKE THIS! You'll love them!

flautas are like taquitos but made with flour tortillas. I love em'!!! Glad you liked these so much! I have a cast iron tortilla press which makes the job easier, especially when making a big batch to freeze. I wanted to make some homemade tortillas Sunday, and I think I may try out this recipe!
