Is is the cream of something soup, Keni? I have to admit, the minute I see a recipe with cream of anything soup in it - zip - I'm gone! I know a lot of people cook with that stuff though! :)

You know whats strange? There is such a word as 'fridge'...but 'refrigerator' doesn't have a 'd' in it! Whats with that? Unless spell check screwed up!

yeah...it's those things, too...but it's also the fact that, other than carrots, it doesn't have anything else mine, or any I'm used to, has in it...

it's SUCH a classic, and while I'm not over the top about "messing with originals", this really doesn't even resemble Chicken N', Dumplings, any more :)

Guess I'll toot my own horn:
    Crockpot Chicken And Dumplings
Although I didn't make the recipe up myself. This is really so easy and the ingredients are so much healthier than canned soup!

Well you just toot away! That one sounds great! And tons of great reviews! I love fluffy dumplings! So we just add the dumplings for the last 30 minutes of cooking? Can I sub parsley or thyme for the rosemary?

Yep, Lillian, just add the dumplings as directed. You'll truly be amazed how great they turn out. I would think you could substitute parsley or thyme. I know you're not a big rosemary fan. :) That recipe was my very first post here! :-D

I wanted to review this because of some of the negative comments about the dumpling portion of the recipe. You see I was raised only knowing dumplings from a tube and love them. I do understand the opinion of those who have had, make or were raised on from scratch dumplings but feel that they are two completely different things. Like Taco Bell food vs. the native food of Mexico--different things but can be good in their own right. Dad and mom both worked and spread their time between work, each other and all us kids, so dinner was usually what was quick and easy.
I dream about those big old fluffy dumplings, sad to say, these are not them. I believe the problem is the use of the slow-cooker. To make those tube biscuits turn into fluffy dumplings, you need a full boil of the liquid going so they will steam-plump. Even turned on high, it was not a rapid enough boil so the dumplings were dense and flat.
I added frozen peas and used a whole cut-up chicken which I removed the bones from—well most of them anyway.
Touching on the rest of the recipe—well it just wasn't that exciting. Not bad at all, but just won’t stand out in my memory as delicious.
    Added my photos.

Yup LB I agree, nothing wrong with the tube biscuits. I have used them in chicken and dumplings for so long that it took me (well, up until I made Kenis C&D recipe) a long time to find a homemade that I liked as much! Your right, full boil is the way to go Simple Chicken N Dumplings I now add veggies to that recipe, peas, carrots, celery.
Your pictures look great though... :) :)

I've never used tube biscuits for dumplings. My mom always did homemade when I was growing up so that's what I continued to do when I started cooking. Your pictures do look good!

    No, haven't tried them Marie.
You should add a note on your recipe ML2C about the optional vegetables. I just use kitchen shears to cut mine up. They may look better if I tore them instead.
You have a good looking recipe too FA.
    Thanks all.
