Nope, going to Grand Central this afternoon for their Annual Chili cook-off/tasting and possibly to see Burlesque.

Making sweet potato pancakes for breakfast. Cranberry maple syrup on top, Side of bacon.

Morning Tina and all. Love the pictures, so sweet.

No shopping for me today either. Actually haven't even left the house in two days, lol. May have to make a run to the grocery for a couple of things.

Not sure what's on the menu for today yet. After all the ham and turkey this week I think I'm feeling a little fishy. We'll see.

    Enjoy your Saturday all!

    Nice pictures Tina.
Pat if the dog isn't still available at the shelter tell them to look into a potcake. www.potcakeplace.com thats where we got joy. she is an awesome dog. you can see the other puppies on the website and they are all cute and it breaks your heart that they kill these dogs. The dog is free but you have to pay $100 to the airline for its travel and they suggest a donation to the shelter. I filled up the travel bag she came in with treats, toys and leashes and sent it back to the shelter.
Worked my 10 hr shift yesterday and doing another today. My body is in protest LOL
I haven't a clue what these people are having for dinner. All of the leftovers are gone.

    The Hot Brown Sandwich
We used to have these all the time when we lived in Covington Kentucky. A staple sandwich dinner on Kentucky Derby Day. Good stuff.
Real burgoo is an adventure in eating, I make a psuedo burgoo, sans possum and squirrel.
Chopped chicken, ground up sausage. creamed corn, onions, celery, okra, lima beans. tomatoes, a bit of smoke seasoning, bbq sauce, you name it, in the pot to make a thick stew.
    Kentucky Burgoo

Today is also "Small Business Saturday" Support your local independents! Shop Mom and Pops!

Kimmer LOL on feeling "fishy" We have a great seafood Market on Central avenue. Island Seafood, great fresh fish. Thanks on the kid's behalf, I think they are pretty cute too. Look at the size of Charlie Brown's head. Yep, my huge grand dog.
Laura, just read about your fainting spell, so sorry to hear about your pain. I do hope you recover quickly. Hugs.
Brooke. I hope you are better too.

Good Morning Everyone! Just finished having my first cup of coffee. It is snowing outside at the moment and it's just gorgeous. Supposed to continue all day which is the perfect background for what's on my agenda.....decorating outside! Will throw all the fall pumpkins and such out back for the deer to munch on and then go for a tromp in the woods to cut boughs of spruce, cedar and pine to make swags for the front doors, the gate, the front deck, etc. Will do a bit inside as well but not a lot. Totally looking forward to it. No clue what I'm going to do for dinner this evening but waiting for inspiration to hit.
Tina, those are beautiful pictures of Olivia and Tyler. You can so totally see the mischief in Tyler's eyes! I can see what you meant! Thank you for sharing. The Chili cook off sounds like an awful lot of fun as does 'Burlesque'. Give us a full report when you get back. 'WOW' on the Hot Brown Sandwich. It looks fabulous. Never heard of that before ever. And Kentucky Burgoo. Huh. Go figure. Never heard of that either. LIke the sounds of your version although I despise Lima Beans and have never tried okra but I'd give it a go. As to the varmint meat....Run Squirrels, run like the wind.....
Morning Kimmer! Have a great day.
Morning Laurie. Take it easy today as best you can.
Good wishes to Brooke and Laura too (oh my goodness that was bad!). Hope you're both feeling way better this morning.

Sending get well wishes to Laura and Brooke....I used to suffer from cluster headaches so I know the pain.

Kimmer, I love not having to go anywhere....enjoy it while you can.

    Don't work too hard, Laurie.

Janet, I envy you being able to go into the woods for decorations. We used to do that too....Can't wait to start decorating.

    Pat, I love Thanksgiving leftovers.

Got a cold front coming in and it's not going over 70 today. I think a nice big bowl of Chicken and Dumplings would be perfect for supper.

Good Morning Pat. You'll have to have a little cat nap today since you didn't sleep so well last night. "Hi" to Phil in your Avatar. Looks like he's eating some delectable things! While I was down on the treadmill I decided I wanted beef so brought up a big Porterhouse steak from the freezer and a couple of potatoes that I will turn into Twice-Baked Spinach and Cheddar potatoes for dinner. I wonder if it is counter-productive to think of food while you're on the treadmill. LOL!
Wow....you've never seen snow Tina. Well....I'm sure I've never seen a lot of things you have in Florida either....orange trees for example. I'd love to see and smell an orange tree. But....I do consider myself a lucky woman to live where I do. I really love it. Over the course of the next few months as we get buried in the stuff, I'll post you some awesome snow pictures so you get the drift so to speak. Ar-ar-ar!
Just pace yourself Laurie and don't go nutso on your only days off cooking because then you are just going to burn yourself out. Resting, relaxing are equally important to slapping food on the table or going to work. It's all about balance. Can your husband or the girls throw things in the oven for you that are pretty much already prepared? I even find a roast chicken is easy to set up in the morning and keep in the fridge....throw a couple of potatoes around it and then get someone to put it in the oven just before you come home? Canadians love shopping in the States. You guys have the most amazing deals ever. I don't call it commitment though, I call it insanity. LOL! I am just not a shopper at heart.

Good morning! Feeling MUCH better today - thanks for all the well wishes! Geez, Laura, I hope you don't get a return of that! 3 days of that and fainting? If it does happen again, you should go to the dr. for sure. Hope you are well now and it never comes back! Tina, Sounds like a fun day you have planned - enjoy! I've never heard of Hot Browns or Burgoo either! Love those pics - gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! :)
Laurie, Good luck to you @ work today, you're a real trooper, that's an awful lot of working. Here is a casserole to use some of your chicken that freezes well - Chicken, Bacon Swiss Casserole
You could also do, for your investment cooking, meatballs to freeze, hamburgers, taco meat (either shredded chicken or ground beef for tacos), baked ziti, quick sear some steak and thinly slice, then refreeze for using in steak sandwiches, baked mac & cheese. Just some ideas - I know you asked Tina, but maybe a few of these will work.
    Hi, Kimmer!
Hey, Janet - Enjoy your snowfall and your day decorating outside! I must admit, I'm not in the mood for decorating this year - hopefully it will come, but it isn't here right now... You're so lucky to have a treadmill - I wish I did! It is so hard to fit in a run sometimes and that would make it so much simpler. I have definitely not been very disciplined in my workouts lately and have vowed to start back to it today! You didn't tell us what's for dinner! :) Is Eat, Pray, Love out on DVD? I want to see that - maybe I can go look for it to rent.
Hi Pat! I'm not shopping today, either! Maybe a little at the grocery, but that's it. I was also up at 5AM (although I did go back to sleep); Aaron got up at 5 to get ready to go to the MU/KU game today and woke me up in the process! How nice that Phil cooks sometimes....I wish mine cooked more! Whatever you choose to do today - have a great one! And enjoy your leftovers!
We are pretty much done with our leftovers - we didn't really take much home with us. Still have turkey for sandwiches, but nothing else to keep having dinners on! I think I'm going to fix My Favorite And Only Scallop Scampi
tonight. I haven't had scallops in a while and this looks light and easy. I may also throw in some shrimp or see if there is a good price on a bit of lobster. I am off to really clean the kitchen and start that carcass in the crockpot. Have just a few other things on my list today, then will start making Christmas stockings for my niece & nephew and the two new puppies. Have a great day everyone!

Hello out there. Feeling perfect today hope you are all as well.
Been out on Amazon looking at new crockpots to put on my Christmas wish list. I was washing up after making the turkey stock yesterday and the hinge to the lid simply let loose. I figured I could just order that part as it is just screwed into the top. Nope no parts toss and get new. I hate the disposable society we have become. Well its not that broken so I'll put it on the pile to go to Mustard Seed and hope it makes some good dinners for someone else.

BTW that is the only shopping I'm doing today. Mr. SuchAFuss says we will brave the outdoors to put some shirts at the dry cleaners and maybe pickup some chips. Then he is going to treat me to lunch/dinner out somewhere. Probably Urban Flats or Bar Louie. Haven't been out of the house much for a week or so. Good to get up clean and out while.

Pleased to hear you are feeling all better Brooke. That Chicken, Bacon Casserole looks wonderful. Haven't had brekkie yet and my stomach is growling. Those are great ideas you gave Laurie. I do love having the treadmill. My husband is the one who bought it. He used to jog outside every second day rain, or sleet or snow and sometimes he looked like the abominable snowman when he'd come back in from his run in the winter time. The treadmill just makes life way easier as you say. I'd like to get a big T.V. down there to watch while I do my power walk but for now I just listen to my Ipod. (I did say that dinner was going to be Steak and Twice-Baked Potatoes...you must have missed it) Yes, Eat, Pray, Love is out on DVD. We just watched it on Pay-per-vu. That scallop recipe looks very good. I was eyeing it up myself.
Glad to hear you are all better today too Laura. Crockpot shopping sounds fun. And so does lunch/dinner out. Enjoy!
Morning Points. Indeed that is a lovely rabbit in your avatar. Would make a good pic for Easter time.
I'm sure you'll love Eat,Pray,Love Pat. It's a total chick flick but a good one. I love all the scenes in Italy, India and then sigh...Bali. Paradise. And the Brazilian guy at the end isn't hard on the old eyes either. LOL on the boxed mashed potato face!

Yes, Janet - I think I was s.p. with you & Wynne. Dinner sounds yummy!
I has really warmed up outside, so waiting for my MP3 to charge and then will head out for a quick run, I think I'll do a quick Tae Bo workout while I'm waiting, since I've got my chores done. Once I get my workout in, I'll have a shower, then off to have my hair done. I love that, one of my favorite things is having my hair done, even if it's just a trim. So looking forward to that. I'll check out the Red Box at the grocery while I'm out to see if I can pick up Eat, Pray, Love to watch tonight. I watched football almost all day yesterday, so I've earned a chick flick. Our city has 3 high schools and one of them won the Class 5 state football championship last night. That was the same team that beat the team my brother coaches to go to state, so I was a little divided, but was rooting for them last night for sure!
Happy Birthday to Billy, Wynne! You're cracking me up - I love that a cold front has your weather at 70 degrees! :) Enjoy those chicken & dumplings!
Laura, Hope you find a great Crock Pot replacement. I agree with you, I hate the disposable society we are in too - things are most often poorly made and when they break, no replacement parts, etc. - you are forced to buy new. It's frustrating. Enjoy your dinner out!
Congrats on the formal adoption of your new grand-puppy, Pat! My good friend has a bassett hound and that dog is so funny, she is gigantic and thinks she's a little lap dog! :)

    Hey Y'all!! :-)

It's so good to read everyone! I finally got a minute or two to sit at the comp and enjoy your comments. I've been so stressed out with all this action around here it's hard to believe as much time has flown by---but it has!

Going to go into the office today to do about 3 hrs or so worth of entry on the comp there for a sales program we have (customer retention/new customers type thing). The bratty boy has a swollen eye this morning, so he and his dad are off to the dump and picking up his scripts. It gave me a minute of "peace" in which to do a couple loads of laundry and straighten up around here before I hit the happy trail to the office, haha!

That bacon chicken swiss casserole is on over here for dinner. Sounds WONDERFUL! I see some new names...and WELCOME to the table! :-)

Hugs and nose-ring yanks to all who qualify, LOL! Love y'all & miss you. Been so stressed my glorious mane is even suffering...haha!

    As always, --Kn0x--

We had a very late lunch. 4 p.m. Had some of Dahlia's

Garnished it with some Cheddar cheese and little chunks of avocado and it totally hit the spot. Got a bit chilled being outside most of the morning. Got my swags made and decorated the urn on the front deck although I'm not quite done yet. My kitchen is a disaster zone so must go take care of that and then I want to decorate my fireplace mantel.
Hope you had a good run and hair-do Brooke.

Hello again all! A little personal news here.......
As some of you may know or may not know, I have taken courses and have been studying really hard for the last year and a half in association management and today I went and took my state test. I PASSED! I am now a licensed Community Association Manager! The test was a tough 3 hours and I was soooooo nervous. I hate tests! I knew I knew everything but so afraid that when I went in, everything in my brain would just stop! But it didn't. I'm so darn proud of myself right now! Family is too. Such a support team I have. Actually, not that I will tell them know, but it worked out to my favor not having the boys here this week. Gave my ample time for last minute cramming. Really not only a career goal but a personal goal! Have worked in community management for a very long time now but until now, had not gone for my license. Just talked to the boys in North Carolina and they seem very proud of their Momma! Yea to Kimmer, if I do say so myself!

    Had to share!

Just now back from all of my errands and the turkey stock in the crockpot smells like a major success. I'm afraid to strain it now, since it will be hot and heavy! So will wait for a little help. My hair looks totally fabulous - I'm really happy with it! And it was nice to work out and go for a run - I feel like a million bucks right now!! :)
Congratulations, Kimmer - how excited you must be! That's really a great accomplishment!
Hi, Knoxcop - Hope you enjoy the casserole, I LOVE it so much! Great comfort food. :)
The grocery didn't have bay scallops, only the big ones and was almost out of those, so I settled for 1/2 pound and bought 1 lb of shrimp, so will make the scallop scampi into a combination shrimp and scallop scampi. Also grabbed some asparagus that had a great price - 2.68/lb down from 4.96/lb! So will saute that and have with the scampi along with some bakery garlic bread that was 99 cents!
Janet - Guess what I saw while I was there? Tones has "Canadian Steak Seasoning"! I immediately thought of you! :) Wonder if they are so bold as to sell that in Canada?? :)
Well I guess I'll go call my beau and see when he's coming home - geez the game was at 11:30 in Kansas City instead of Columbia - he should be home by now! I'm hungry and want to fix dinner ASAP!! :)

Sens vs. Toronto on now. In Ottawa. I asked Jim to liken it to football and he says picture the "Pats vs. Pittsburgh or Indianapolis". The Leaf fans are odious. They are buffoons. And they flock to our Corel Centre (the hockey arena in Ottawa) for Sens/Leaf games because ticket prices in Toronto are atrocious. They 'boo' our captain. It's awful. However.....guess the score at the moment.....1-0...SENS! WHOO-HOO! My team, my team!
Steaks going great guns. Lovely salad made. Fresh leaf lettuce, avocado chunks, green onions and cherry tomatoes with Sundried Tomato Dressing. Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions on the side. Twice Baked Potatoes. It doesn't get any better than this.

That scampi was pretty darn good I have to say! I didn't follow the recipe exactly, but did cut the large scallops into 4 pieces each and combined with the shrimp it was a very tasty dish. Didn't have any white wine on hand so actually used a few tablespoons of lemon juice and a few tablespoons of white wine vinegar and called it a day. Good results! It was all very tasty and there is plenty left over, so looks like I'll have some good lunches out of it for this week too!
