Ingredients
  • 2 pie crust recipes
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries, or frozen
  • 1-1/2 to 2 cups sugar
  • Lots of unsalted butter

Directions
  1. Prepare pie crust recipe, roll out and cut into strips, (about 1inch wide, 13 inches long) to form lattice, (doesn't have to be exact!)
  2. Grease a 9 x 13 pan (aluminum works best)
  3. Heat oven to 400 degrees
  4. Place strips of pie crust in bottom of pan in lattice pattern
  5. Pour 2 cups Blackberries mixed with either 1-1/2 or 2 cups sugar
  6. over lattice bottom crust
  7. Dot heavily with butter
  8. Cover with more strips of pie crust in lattice pattern on top of blackberries and sugar
  9. Place in oven until lightly browned
  10. THEN pour 2 cups boiling water over cobbler and return to oven until juice begins to thicken
  11. You'll know,..... you'll just know when it 's just right!
  12. NOTE: This is a very old family recipe. Don't believe a 9 x 13 glass dish existed when this was first made! However, if an aluminum pan is unavailable, a glass dish will work. Of course, the aluminum browns so much better.
  13. This cobbler cries out for vanilla ice cream. It is mighty good!

Ohhhhhh...this sounds sooooooooooooo good1!!

WOW - this is unique. I can't wait to try it.

Copied and pasted as word doc. I will take pics of this, sounds easy and good. JJ

I made you blackberry cobbler this weekend using fresh black berries. As you already know I made it mostly just because it called for adding two cups of water after it was virtually cooked. It was so hard to bring myself to add the water, so first I added 1 cup but it didn't cover the whole topping, so I added the other. It takes 15 minutes for the water to work down to the consistency it seem to require. It looked incredible good and was allowed to sit for a couple of hours. On a scale of 1-5 for ease and taste you get a "6". Just wonderful, perfect flavor and texture. I used the rolled up refrigerated dough, let the two get to room temp, rolled them out a little thinner using a wine bottle, cut strips, etc. It takes 6 tablespoons of butter cut 1/8 thick broke in half placed 1" apart to cover the mix. It took 30 minutes to brown when placed on the middle rack of the oven set at 400. Temp reading in the middle was 350. Then 15 minutes for the water part. To anyone who wants to make a quick easy just delicious dessert, this is pretty dang good. Thanks for posting your recipe and it was fun to make. I have given most of it away as everyone who sees it, wants some. Best, JJ.

Hi!
I made this after seeing it on Goldminers site, and I have an abundance of blackberries in my freezer so I cooked this for Easter. It was great! My husband cringed as I poored the boiling water over the cobler, but it was so good and so easy! I just love it! Thanks and have a great weekend!
