Ingredients
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 3-4 pounds kielbasa (cut in 2 - 3" chunks)
  • Note: I have used turkey kielbasa in this recipe and it tastes just as good. Most people don't even notice the difference ;-)
  • 2-12 once bottles beer (not light)
  • 4 to 5 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 pound mushrooms, quartered
  • Salt, pepper and marjoram to taste

Directions
  1. In a large heavy skillet melt the butter and sauté the onions and mushrooms over medium heat until onions are translucent but not browned.
  2. Add the kielbasa and brown for 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
  3. Add the beer to the pan and bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat.
  5. Simmer, uncovered for 25 minutes.
  6. Remove the kielbasa and onions from the pan.
  7. Turn the sausage onto a platter or serving tray and top with the onions.
  8. Keep in a warm oven.
  9. Reduce the beer over high heat to 2 cups.
  10. Pour over kielbasa.
  11. Sprinkle with marjoram (optional)
  12. Serve with mashed potatoes and beetroot-horseradish relish.

Yes, I always make more than the recipe calls for!


The recipe calls for mushrooms but the directions omitted them. Where do they go?


Hmmmm... how could I have forgotten that? I suppose because I am the one preparing the dish all the time, it is second nature to me. So many of my recipes are stored in my personal file. My brain ;-) I usually sauté the onions and mushrooms together. I hope you try this recipe as it really is delish!
