Pears With Gorgonzola Recipe
for those who (like I) do not or cannot eat sugar or sweet desserts and love the combination of cheese with fruit - this is it! even my father, did not really go for italian food, loved this dessert - maybe because I served champagne with it?

Ingredients
  • 4 firm, small, ripe pears
  • 1 TBSP lemon juice, fresh
  • 1/4 cup gorgonzola or other blue cheese, at room temperature
  • (there is a danish one which is quite lovely, not as 'harsh' as gorgonzola)
  • 2 TBSP butter (approx.)
  • 4 TBSP freshly ground walnuts (approx.), pine nuts or pistachio nut
  • (i used a mixture of all three)

Directions
  1. peel pears
  2. cut in halves, so that the stem is kept intact on one side
  3. (ok, then it will not be perfect 'halves' - but lets not get mathematical about that :-) )
  4. remove kernels and about
  5. 1 TBSP of 'flesh' (pulp?)
  6. immediately brush withlemon juice to avoid pears becoming brown
  7. mix gorgonzola with butter until soft and creamy-foamy
  8. (i take a wooden spoon, definitely NOT WITH A MIXER OR OTHER ELECTRIC TOOL)
  9. fill both sides of pear halves with mixture
  10. press together to make a hole one again
  11. (heavens, describing this is difficult :-) )
  12. roll pears in nut mixture
  13. place on serving dish
  14. refridgerate about 2 (two) hours or until mixture is firm.
  15. looks pretty - i decorate with some mint leaves

Thank you for your encouragement, Pat. makes me want to keep on trying - if only the right words came to my mind when i need them - i am a bit rusty with my 'kitchen english' - this here is a great opportunity for me to stay in training.

Kochhexe, pear and blue cheese are one of my favorite fruit/cheese combos - we often eat it on a piece of french bread, with a good glass of wine on the side! I have to try your method, and the nut coating would be excellent - thank you for sharing this (and I think your "kitchen English" is great!).


I have to pick up some pears, I have the cheese. Will be using ground black walnuts. Looking forward to this,thanks for sharing......
