Ingredients
  • 6 large potatoes, peeled
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 clove garlic,finly minced(optional)

Directions
  1. boil potatoes in a small amount of water until done,drain well
  2. put potatoes in hand held masher/ricer,rice and add garlic,if using, and mix well.
  3. let potatoes cool, on a floured board,gragualy add flour working mixture into a dough, with your hands.
  4. shape potato mixture into a long roll and cut into 10 slices
  5. dump dumplings into boiling water and gently boil for 5 minutes
  6. can be served as is or, as the Czech. do most of the time,heat 1 Tbs. butter in a heavy bottomed skillet and brown the dumplings then serve

Minus the garlic, this is my Czech grama's recipe that I love. I can't always go home for the holidays, but she always has a few bags full of these potato dumplings in the freezer for me when I finally show up!! Thank you for the post.

I have had these type dumplings while dining with a family of germans who still made authentic food. They are hearty and delicious and we ate them with a gravy alongside meat. Thank you for the recipe, i know i will love them!!
