Ingredients

CAKE:

1 c butter

1 c water

2 T baking cocoa

2 c all-purpose flour

2 c sugar

1 t baking powder

1 t baking soda

1/2 t salt

1/2 c buttermilk

1 t vanilla extract

2 eggs

FROSTING:

3 T butter

2 T baking cocoa

3 c confectioners' sugar

1 t vanilla extract

1/8 t salt

3 to 4 T milk or whipping cream

Directions

In a saucepan, bring butter, water and cocoa to a boil.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Add cocoa mixture; mix well.

Combine buttermilk and vanilla; add to batter and mix well.

Beat in eggs.

Pour into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan.

Bake at 350° for 23-27 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.

FROSTING:

In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook and stir butter and cocoa until smooth.

Remove from the heat.

In a small mixing bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, vanilla and salt.

Add cocoa mixture and enough milk until frosting reaches desired consistency.

Frost cake.

You know, it seems like I'm using buttermil a lot lately to cook with...it just adds that special tang to practically everything. So, I know a buttermilk chocolate cake has got to be wonderful...wow.
