How to make it

  • In a saucepan, bring butter, water and cocoa to a boil.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Add cocoa mixture; mix well.
  • Combine buttermilk and vanilla; add to batter and mix well.
  • Beat in eggs.
  • Pour into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 23-27 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
  • FROSTING:
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook and stir butter and cocoa until smooth.
  • Remove from the heat.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, vanilla and salt.
  • Add cocoa mixture and enough milk until frosting reaches desired consistency.
  • Frost cake.

    This looks awesome, thanks for posting it. I've only used buttermilk in biscuts, never in cake. I'll try it one of these days and let you know how it turned out!

    You know, it seems like I'm using buttermil a lot lately to cook with...it just adds that special tang to practically everything. So, I know a buttermilk chocolate cake has got to be wonderful...wow. I am printing this out to try soon and I'l let you know what I think. I know it's making me hungry now. Ha! =)
