Ingredients

How to make it

  • In a saucepan, cook apples and water over medium heat for about 10 min. or until apples are tender.
  • Combine 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg;stir into apple mixture.
  • Bring to a boil;cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
  • Remove from heat; stir in lemon juice.
  • Spread six slices of bread with 1/3 cup filling each;top with remaining bread.
  • In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs, milk, vanilla and remaining sugar.
  • Dip sandwiches in egg mixture in egg mixture.
  • Cook on a lightly greased hot griddle until golden brown on both sides.
  • Dust with confectioners sugar if desired.
  • Smother with maple syrup if desired!

    Very filling and good indeed. Used banana nut yeasted bread covered with a little Nutella and honey. Didn't double the recipe. Good thing because it was very filling.

    I have a quart of preserved apples that just might have this recipe's name written on it. Of course I'll have to double the recipe and make some bread.

    I posted a comment on here but it didn't show up...so here I go again! I made this today for breakfast and it was very good! I made it as written except I added more cinnamon because I love cinnamon! The ingredient amounts are perfect...just enough for 6 sandwiches! If you love french toast and apple pie, then you'll love this recipe! 5 Forks! I added my photo:)

    Another good one from you, Michelle - you have been very busy lately! This sounds fun AND delicious - a monty cristo type "sandwich"...I hope to try this one soon (we love apples around here!).
