How to make it

  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  • Pound cutlets with a meat tenderizer to flatten them.
  • Season cutlets with salt and pepper, dredge them in beaten eggs and then coat evenly with bread crumbs.
  • Place cutlets into skillet and fry until golden brown (1-2 minutes on each side).
  • Remove the meat from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  • Keep the meat warm in the oven while you make the gravy.
  • Sauté bacon and onions until golden brown.
  • Add tomato paste and mushrooms, and sauté over a low heat.
  • Add wine, water and seasonings; let simmer for about 5 minutes. Stir in the sour cream.
  • Pour over Schnitzel just before serving.

I'm going to have to try this one. I have been looking for a while for a Jagerschnitzel recipe that sounds tasty. And this one does. Thanks. Gotta have potato dumplings with this too. And a nice German white wine. Yum. Lori

I dont like shrooms (can get past the texture) but I do like the sauce that comes from this so I just push the shrooms aside, LOL. Great recipe!

My husband made this last night... added his own touch of course (not change of ingredients, just amounts - he's an eyeballer)
It was DE - LISH - US... we used a red onion - we will have to use a less-sweet one next time, but I seriously ate it up before I realized it was gone! You got my five.

I made this for my family this last weekend...It came out great! Everyone loved it, all was gone, but picture this - I'm cleaning the kitchen and I'm putting the wine in the fridge...right on the front, top shelf is the sour cream! Did I forget the schnitzel or the Jager? Either way, it's going to be a do-over. My family loved it. Thanks for a great recipe!
