Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  • Put the potatoes into a pan of salted, boiling water.
  • Bring back to the boil for 10 minutes.
  • At the same time, hard boil the 2 eggs.
  • Steam the spinach in a colander over the pan that has the potatoes.
  • This will only take about a minute.
  • When the spinach is done, remove from the colander and squeeze out excess water.
  • Remove the eggs from pan.
  • Cool under cold water and peel and quarter them.
  • Put to one side.
  • Drain the potatoes in the colander.
  • In a separate pan, slow-fry the onions and carrots in a little olive oil for about 8-10 minutes.
  • Add the cream and bring just to a boil.
  • Remove from the heat and add the Cheddar cheese, lemon juice, and mustard.
  • Put the spinach, fish and eggs in an decent sized casserole dish with a lid and mix together.
  • Pour over this mixture the creamy vegetable sauce.
  • Mash the cooked potatoes - adding a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper.
  • Spread the potatoes on top of the fish.
  • Place in the oven for 25 - 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 450 degrees.
  • I served this fish pie with a loaf of fresh Italian bread and a homemade Cheddar cheese soup found on this site.

I went to a friend for dinner last night and he made
this fish pie with cod and smoked haddock.
Absolutely delicious. I thought I make a mean fish pie
but this was far better (and easier). Next time I
make one I will definitely use this recipe. Well done Jamie!

I hate fish and hate cooking so have never made a fish pie before - hubby loves fish so I decided to be brave and had a go at this and he said it was really tasty and enjoyed it very much. he did say he didnt think it needed the boiled eggs, but apart from that it was a winner!!

Ths is the only fish pie I ever make, having it tonight actually. I make it with creme fraiche instead of heavy cream , parmesan cheese a per the original recipe and a mix of white fish and smoked haddock. Absoultely gorgeous!

Dear Debbie. Have had another go at this recipe today with the right amount of cream and it turned out very well, but oh so rich and filling. but lovely. I was going to divide the remainder into three for the freezer, but have now decided to divide it into 6 portions. as smaller portions will be quite sufficient for me. I nearly didn`t have enough room for a sweet!!!! Luv Mum

Saludos.

wow, I'm definitely going to have to try this one tonight... it'll be interesting to say the least, i mean, it's not often that you see fish and pie together, much less in the same sentience. unless it's 'does that pie smell like fish to you' but that's usually not a good reference......
