Ingredients
  • 5 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 large handfuls of fresh spinach
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, halved and finely chopped
  • 1 little extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 1/4 cups of heavy cream
  • 2 good handfuls of grated Cheddar cheese
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 heaped tsp English mustard or French will do
  • 1 pound haddock, cod or other white fish, skinned, boned and sliced into strips
  • salt and pepper

Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Put the potatoes into a pan of salted, boiling water.
  3. Bring back to the boil for 10 minutes.
  4. At the same time, hard boil the 2 eggs.
  5. Steam the spinach in a colander over the pan that has the potatoes.
  6. This will only take about a minute.
  7. When the spinach is done, remove from the colander and squeeze out excess water.
  8. Remove the eggs from pan.
  9. Cool under cold water and peel and quarter them.
  10. Put to one side.
  11. Drain the potatoes in the colander.
  12. In a separate pan, slow-fry the onions and carrots in a little olive oil for about 8-10 minutes.
  13. Add the cream and bring just to a boil.
  14. Remove from the heat and add the Cheddar cheese, lemon juice, and mustard.
  15. Put the spinach, fish and eggs in an decent sized casserole dish with a lid and mix together.
  16. Pour over this mixture the creamy vegetable sauce.
  17. Mash the cooked potatoes - adding a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper.
  18. Spread the potatoes on top of the fish.
  19. Place in the oven for 25 - 30 minutes.
  20. Bake at 450 degrees.
  21. I served this fish pie with a loaf of fresh Italian bread and a homemade Cheddar cheese soup found on this site.

This is a good recipe......I agree, the way he lays out the steps can be made more efficient.
Thanks for posting!

Wow, I'm definitely going to have to try this one tonight... it'll be interesting to say the least, i mean, it's not often that you see fish and pie together, much less in the same sentience. unless it's 'does that pie smell like fish to you' but that's usually not a good reference......

I love Jamie Oliver and this sound good too. Thanks Debra 47.

Saludos.

Awesome, next thing I make-thanks!

I have GOT to try this out.

Debra - that looks so delicious! I have go to try it, too. Thanks for the recipe, I'm printing it out....great post!

I made it, Debra - and it was just as delicious as I imagined. A real keeper - thanks again!

Dear Debbie. Have had another go at this recipe today with the right amount of cream and it turned out very well, but oh so rich and filling. but lovely. I was going to divide the remainder into three for the freezer, but have now decided to divide it into 6 portions. as smaller portions will be quite sufficient for me. I nearly didn`t have enough room for a sweet!!!! Luv Mum
