Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 sprigs of onions, finely chopped for garnish (optional)

Directions
  1. Heat the olive oil in a sauce pan over medium low heat. Add the onion, garlic, coriander, cumin, allspice and cayenne pepper--cook, stirring for 5 minutes or until the onion is soft. Add the brown sugar and lemon juice, and stir until combined.
  2. Add the ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce and 1 cup of water and stir. Season with salt and pepper to taste (I didn't use any). Increase heat to medium-high and bring the sauce to a boil--constantly stirring, until thickened.
  3. Allow to cool slightly, then puree in a blender. If serving as a side sauce, let the sauce cool completely, place in a serving bowl, then scatter with scallions as a garnish.

It sounds divine. I am going to try it out. Great post thank you!

Awesome.

Like it lots!

Sounds so yummy...:)

*wink*

Would you have to put this in a blender? it sounds so great as is. tinad

I just heard about, and tried, making barbeque sauce by melting a can of jelled cranberry sauce with a bottle of picante sauce. I used HOT sauce and got the burn...too much so, and then had to add brown sugar and maple syrup to quiet it down. I'm still tweaking the recipe - but it works!

It blends all the ingredients perfectly in the Blender.

This looks so delicious, and simple too! once we burn through the 3 open jars we have right now I'll be making this one!
