My Sweet and Spicy Barbecue Sauce
From noir 15 years agoIngredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil shopping list
- 1 onion, grated shopping list
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed shopping list
- 1 tsp ground coriander shopping list
- 1 tsp ground cumin shopping list
- 1 tsp ground allspice shopping list
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper shopping list
- 2 tbsp brown sugar shopping list
- 1 tbsp lemon juice shopping list
- 1/2 cup ketchup shopping list
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard shopping list
- 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce shopping list
- 1 cup of water shopping list
- 2 sprigs of onions, finely chopped for garnish (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Heat the olive oil in a sauce pan over medium low heat. Add the onion, garlic, coriander, cumin, allspice and cayenne pepper--cook, stirring for 5 minutes or until the onion is soft. Add the brown sugar and lemon juice, and stir until combined.
- Add the ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce and 1 cup of water and stir. Season with salt and pepper to taste (I didn't use any). Increase heat to medium-high and bring the sauce to a boil--constantly stirring, until thickened.
- Allow to cool slightly, then puree in a blender. If serving as a side sauce, let the sauce cool completely, place in a serving bowl, then scatter with scallions as a garnish.
