Ingredients
  • For the Meatballs:
  • 1 pound ground chuck
  • 4 ounces dried bread crumbs
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 ounces whole milk
  • 6 ounces grated Romano
  • 3 ounces grated Spanish onion
  • 2 ounces finely diced fresh garlic
  • 2 ounces finely chopped fresh Italian parsley leaves
  • 2 ounces finely chopped fresh basil leaves
  • **********************************************************
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with olive oil cooking spray.
  • Mix all ingredients thoroughly in large bowl. If mixture seems a little loose add more bread crumbs.
  • Roll meatballs loosely about the size of a golf ball and place on baking sheet. Place into preheated oven for approximately 35 to 40 minutes. Enjoy!

Directions
  1. For the Sauce:
  2. 6 ounces good olive oil, not extra-virgin
  3. 12 cloves garlic, finely sliced
  4. 1 large or 2 medium Spanish onions, finely diced
  5. 2 (28-ounce) cans imported crushed tomatoes
  6. 1 teaspoon salt
  7. 1/2 teaspoon white or black pepper
  8. 1 large handful julienned fresh basil leaves
  9. ***************************************************
  10. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add oil. Once heated add the finely sliced garlic and onions to the pan. Cook over medium heat until soft and slightly brown. Next add the canned crushed tomatoes, salt and pepper and stir. Allow the sauce to come to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the julienned basil.

These sound yummy gr8t post

I gave this recipe 5 forks because this is similar to how I make meatballs! I don't use the exact measurements because I'm more a dash of this and a splash of that. I know they taste good though!

These look and sound so delicious, Ray. There's nothing better than solid, classic recipes that have stood the test of time and this is one of them. I often add grated cheese to my meatball mixture and Romano is a wonderful accomplice to the flavorful and usual meatball suspects here.
;-) I am also all about fresh herbs - I love them and grow them - so the freshness in this recipe really speaks to me. Thanks for the recipe, m'dear! You get a high 5 from me. :) ~Vickie

Ooooh! These sound terrific, Ray! Wasn't expecting the sauce recipe too.....that was a bonus! Thanks!

I love meatballs and I like that you added to not tweak it! I probably would have tweaked just out of habit but I love this and will definitely try it just as is! High 5 from me! Teresa

Thanks ,these look great. Do you think they could be made with turkey instead of beef?

Mama mia !!!!! bring on the meat balls these sound fantastic ray, thank you very much ..... i rate it a 5

Thanks guys!

I'm always looking for a really good meatball recipe. I think I found it! Thanks Ray.

I have to say that Mike Maroni did us all a favor by letting leak this amazing meatball recipe. Mike employed my sister for a while and I worked next door to him during my high school days, so I can say first-hand that the results of this recipe are shockingly close to his own meatballs. Thanks for sharing. Everyone should make these!

Shine, I can only imagine that this is as wonderful to taste as it is to smell. The fresh basil sends it over the top. Saved and my family will appreciate this one for sure. Thank you for sharing!

I made these and they are good. I'd modify a couple of things, half the onion and breadcrumbs, add up to a half pound of meat. I thought the meatballs needed salt, pepper and maybe a little cayenne to spice 'em up.
Also, this is too big for what I would call a medium sauce pan, I used my 7 qt. dutch oven once the meatballs were added. The sauce was really good.
