How to make it

  • Combine flour, salt and pepper. Dredge ribs in the mixture, shaking off excess.
  • Heat oil in a large saute pan, brown ribs on all sides and remove them to the crockpot (for this amount we need two), pouring off excess fat.
  • Add onions and mushrooms to the crockpot.
  • In a bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients.
  • Pour over ribs in the pots, cover and cook 8 hours on LOW.
  • After 8 hours, turn control to HI and uncover. Cook 15 - 20 minutes, until condensed to your liking.

The sauce in the crock pot is not going to condense down very much. It is approx 2 cups water based stuff vs. 4 cups fat in different forms. I suggest making a roux for 6 cups of gravy and adding 4 cups water to the sauce to make a total of 10 cups gravy.

Speaking as a guy, it's a nice meat dish. Not the usual short ribs or baby back ribs flavor I have come to expect.
Bones pull right out of the meat. Think I'll have to make some gravy out of all the onion and mushroom sauce left over.

Unfortunately the calorie count's correct lol. I guess that's why all us brides try to slim down again before the wedding - if we cook too many of these meals for our betrothed!!!

Sounds wonderful - a pop-the-question meal for sure! (It had better be, for those nutrition numbers ... 128 grams of fat PER SERVING and 3/4ths of a day's calories?!?)
