Aunt Almas White Cookies Recipe

An old family recipe, from my mother’s Aunt Alma – I love the flavor the almond extract gives these. You can add finely diced almonds to the batter, if you really want to go with the almond flavor. I had to share this “oldie but goodie”!

- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 4¼ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- ½ teaspoon salt
Directions
- Cream together both sugars, butter and oil.
- Stir in eggs, and both extracts, mixing well.
- In a separate bowl, stir remaining dry ingredients together to mix well; stir into creamed mixture until thoroughly blended.
- Roll dough into balls and place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Press each ball down with your fingertips (my mom would use a potato masher to give the tops of the cookies a pretty pattern).
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes, until just barely brown around the outer edges.
- Remove cookies from pan to waxed paper to cool completely before storing.
