Mary Starrs Chocolate Wet Cake

This recipe came from a cookbook by Mary Starr my Mom had when I was little. Mary Starr was a local cooking celebrity, on one of the local TV Stations. All the recipes in the book were submitted by viewers, so, I don't know whose recipe it really was! Read more This is the first cake I ever made, and I was in 6th grade! Ingredients
- cake shopping list
- 2 c. flour (plain) shopping list
- 2 c. sugar shopping list
- 1 c. water shopping list
- 1/4 c. or 1 stick butter shopping list
- 1/2 c. Crisco shopping list
- 1/4 c. cocoa shopping list
- 2 whole eggs shopping list
- 1 1/8 tsp. soda shopping list
- 1 1/8 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 c. buttermilk shopping list
- 1 1/8 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- icing shopping list
- about half a box powdered sugar (approx 2 cups) shopping list
- 1/8 c. milk (or 2 T) shopping list
- 1/8 c. cocoa (or 3 T) shopping list
- 1 stick butter shopping list
- 1 1/8 tsp. vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- CAKE:
- Combine sugar and flour in mixer bowl.
- Melt butter and crisco in sauce pan
- Stir cocoa and water in with melted butter and crisco
- Bring to boil and pour over sugar and flour
- Add buttermilk, soda, cinnamon, vanilla and eggs to ingredients in bowl.
- Mix together (batter will be thin and may spatter).
- Pour into 9"x13" pan that has been greased and floured.
- Bake at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean.
- ICING:
- Pour powdered sugar in mixer bowl
- Melt butter in saucepan
- Stir in milk and cocoa and bring to boil
- Add to powdered sugar in mixer bowl.
- Add vanilla.
- Beat well and spread on cooled cake.
