Apple-onion Sauce For Pork
From lindabtx 15 years agoIngredients
- 1 tsp canola oil shopping list
- 2 medium apples - thinly sliced shopping list
- 1 medium onion - thinly sliced shopping list
- 1 cup apple cider shopping list
- 1 tsp cornstarch shopping list
- 1 tsp chicken soup base or Bouillon shopping list
- 1 pinch thyme shopping list
- 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar or to taste shopping list
- 2 tbs dried cranberries - optional shopping list
How to make it
- Saute onions in canola oil until they start to get tender and then add the apples and continue to saute until the apples begin to soften. If the apples are very crisp and made for cooking (like Granny Smith) they can be started at the same time as the onions.
- Mix the cornstarch with about 1/4 cup of the apple cider and set aside.
- Add the remaining 3/4 cup of apple cider and the chicken soup base to the onions and apples. Add the thyme, vinegar and cranberries. Stir well and add more apple cider if most of the liquid is absorbed quickly. How much liquid you want depends on your taste and possibly your use. If you want a lot of liquid, add more cider. If you want a thicker sauce and the liquid is too thin after the onions and apples are almost cooked, add some of the cornstarch slurry to thicken.
- Taste for seasoning and add more thyme or vinegar if necessary. Serve and enjoy.
