Ingredients
  • This is a recipe we came up with to replace the cereal bars sold in stores because they all contain trace amounts of almonds for some reason and my 8 yr old has a treenut allergy.
  • 3 cups of cereal- This is great to use up the ends of all the boxes of cereal in your pantry...It is better if you use 3 different kinds but totally up to you. We have used, rice crispies, kix, reeses peanut butter, cookie crist, cheerios. For a more healthy option 2 1/2 cups of cereal and 1/2 cup of wheat germ.
  • 2 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter chips
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • These are the chips my kids like but we have used butterscotch or vanilla -whatever is in the pantry.
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • cooking spray (pam)

Directions
  1. I used a 9 X 13 pan spray very very well with pam- if not you will never get them out :)
  2. get a extra large mixing bowl and add all the ingredients. I usually let the kids do this pour a cup of their fav in the bowl.
  3. mix all together
  4. spray the kids hands with pam
  5. and let them press the mixture into the pan.
  6. bake on 350 , if you like the cereal bars crispy bake a little longer.

I keep coming back to this recipe...I've got to try it. :)

Okay...they're tried! :) Here's what I did:I doubled the recipe and used Cheerios, Corn Chex and Honey Smacks. I did only use the one can of sweet cond milk, but I added a bit of honey. I also added some raisins and the chips I used were cinnamon chips. They tasted a lot like granola bars, but not! Very good, and a great morning treat. I posted a photo, but will move it to under step by step when I can, because I will be making these again, soon, with a more colorful cereal and vanilla chips(for that "milky" taste), and that picture should be much prettier! :) Thanks, Laurie

I like the idea that we can add whatever we want! I'll have to try this one!

This was very good! I made some changes to make it very low fat. I used 1/2 the chocolate chips, but I added cranraisins. I used half the butter. I used Rice Crispies cereal and Crispix. I also made the sweetened condensed milk using the following recipe...http://www.grouprecipes.com/83320/sugar-free-fat-free-sweetened-condensed-milk.html

This worked out perfectly! If your making this for kids then I would make it as written because it may not be sweet enough for them. I will be making this many times so I can try different add-ins!

Okay...I made these again and I reduced the fat even more! I made it the same as I did the first time but this time I omitted the cranraisins and instead of putting the chocolate chips into the cereal, I melted them and drizzled them ontop! I used a lot less chocolate that way! I also added 1/2 tsp. almond extract into the condensed milk recipe.

Great recipe. I will have to give this a try. Thanks for the recipe and take care.
