Lavender Butter Cookies

- 2 sticks butter ( no substitution ) shopping list
- 1/2 cup plus 1/8 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 small egg, fork beaten shopping list
- 1 tsp vanilla shopping list
- 1 to 2 Tbs creme fraiche ( or heavy cream, sour cream ) shopping list
- 2 1/2 cups flour shopping list
- 1 Tbs crushed dried lavender buds shopping list
How to make it
- Prep time does not include chilling time
- Cream butter and sugar until smooth
- Stir in the egg, vanilla and creme fraiche.
- Add enough flour to make a dough that clings together
- Stir in crushed lavender buds
- Form dough with lightly floured hands into a roll ( thickness like a kielbassa sausage ) and wrap in wax paper.
- Chill well for a few hours.
- Then cut off slices 1/4 inch thick with sharp kife
- Place on baking sheets about an inch apart.
- Bake in a preheated 350 oven about 15 minutes or edges just start to turn lightly brown
- do not over bake, so watch carefully.
- Remove cookies to rack to cool completely.
- Note. These really taste wonderful when complely cold.
- One may sprinkle on some lavender scented powed sugar or even drizzle on a lavender colored sugar glaze.
- A lovely tea time cookie

These have the delightful flavor & aroma of lavender & butter. The texture is like a classic shortbread, with a crisp yet tender crumb. I highly recommend this. (Midgelet, I hope you like the photo.)
