Way back in the day, when I watched Gilligan's Island, the first time it was on TV (ahem, I'm not old, I only look that way on the outside); this was a favored treat that my sitter would make for me while we watched the Skipper and Little Buddy. She didn't split the dogs, but just fried them to a crisp in the pan and she would steam the buns. They were so soft they fell apart in your hands. But you couldn't have enjoyed a weinie more than those made with love by Weezie. She was the tops in taking care of kids. Catsup was never ever allowed near those dogs. Mustard all the way.

Thats ok, I watched Gilligans and the Lone Ranger with Tonto and Silver the horse! You know sometimes it just the real simple stuff that makes it all worth while. Glad you enjoyed the posting. Another thing to do is boil hot dogs and then put regular hot dog buns in the microwave. two at a time, about 15 seconds (1300watt is mine). Have mayo and mustard, sweet pickle relish ready. The buns come out steamed and so soft, quickly put on mayo, mustard, relish, then dive in. Yummmy also. JJ

I used to refer to this as a "Burnt Weenie Sandwich" (even if the weenies weren't really burnt) in honor of a Frank Zappa song. Actually, I still refer to it that way......

Love this, we used to get a little fancy and melt cheese on the hot dogs and sometimes maybe add onion.
