    Good Morning Everyone! I'm thawing out some Boneless Chicken Thighs today for this evening's dinner. Have Thai Yellow Chicken Curry with Potatoes on the menu for tonight over Jasmine Rice. It is supposed to rain all day so this will be a comfort food meal. Hope everyone has a great one! See you tonight!

    Good Morning
    Cold and raining here again today. Looks like a good day for staying indoors - but have to go to work anyway. We spent most of last evening after the football game trying to figure out what my daughter Laura might have eaten to cause her tongue to swell. We went over her whole day - no hidden gluten that we could find or excess salt so are still baffled. It is just sore this morning but back to normal size so she is being very very careful. Have a great day everyone.

    Pears due out of the canner in 15 minutes. Did a work-up on the price. Pears were free, so just for the other materials makes it at $2.50/qt including profit margin.
    Might get some No-knead bread going this afternoon.
    We had a shower dump on us just before dawn. Just messy enough outside I might not get any of that outdoor work done. But the day is young.

    Good afternoon everyone! Guess it's raining all around. Woke up at 4:30AM to a major light show (lightning, thunder, pouring rain)...then got back to sleep. I'm going out to dinner with a close friend who now lives in London so no cooking for me today. Not sure where we're going yet. So far your dinners sound yummy! Hope you all have a great day!

    Sounds fun, Pat. Have a nice dinner too.
    Laurie, we're having chicken soup too. Made my stock yesterday from my carcass from Saturday.
    That's scary, Michelle, glad she's back to normal.
    Meatball casserole looks good, Lori.
    Have a great time with your friend, DT. I'd love a good thunder storm.
    Cloudy/partly clear day here, but no rain and 64ยบ so I'm not complaining. Just hanging out all day at home. Have a great day all!
    Oh, and the prime top sirloin steaks last night were absolutely fantastic. 100% edible. At only $6 lb. - I'm no longer wasting my money on the filet mignons @ $11 lb. (which are only Choice)

    It's just straight up pear conserves. Quartered them up. Had enough for 2 1/2 quarts. Mother brought them in from the senior center afortnight ago and they have been in paper bags with an apple in each bag in the fridge to ripen.
    We'll get to eat that partial quart if someone doesn't want it on discount.
    Just back from the store. Bought some clothing racks so I can hang the pants and shirts for sale and make room for more stuff on our display tables.

    Jess' Open House is tonight, too. Not looking forward to it. Other kids get on my nerves so bad. Stuck up spoiled brats the lot of 'em. LOL At least she has said that she wants to get in and out as fast as she can and only have me meet her favorite teachers. Good. Was kinda hoping to go out to eat afterward, but that doesn't look like it is going to happen. So will be something quick and easy or more leftovers.

    P7O's parent picked a package of pre-pared pears,
    A package of pre-pared pares she did pick;
    If P7O's parent picked a package of pre-pared pears,

    To ripen the pre-pared pears P7O popped them in the fridge,
    Into the fridge the pre-pared pears were put;

    The package of pared pears were put in a pot;
    If the package of pared pears were put in a pot,
    Where's the pot of pears P7O prepared?

    He boiled them in a sugar solution and put them in canning jars.
    Into the canning jars the pears were put.
    If P7O canned quarts of pears,
    Where's the canned quarts of pears P7O's parent picked?

    They're cooling on the counter top all prepared for tomorrow.
    To the farmer's market they will go to tempt the tongue of the public.

    Your sis will NOT be disappointed on the steaks, Val. Got 2 more left from my package and will probably have tomorrow or Sat night. (don't want to freeze them) Your dinner sounds good, too.
    Funny DD, yesterday was my nephew's bday too. After that feast, don't blame you for not wanting to cook tonight.
    Laurie, you're tiring me out just reading about your day/night! LOL That's why we have our kids when we're young.
    P, do you sell all summer long at the flea market? Sounds like a lot of work, but you enjoy it it seems...
    LOL Ang, I always hated those things too. Good luck.
    Pat, You've had a really good time this last week. At least you get to go away again soon. What a life! I'm jealous. ;')
    My stock is reducing to a useable amount - will probably freeze a quart as usual. Think I'm just going for creamy chicken and veggie this time. Smells good anyway...

    Creamy chicken and veggie thing sounds great Donna! Is it soup? Have you ever made Tortilla Soup?

    Dud gum it! It ain't no durned flea market! It's a farmer's market. It's where the farmers come to sell their fruits and vegetables.
    Granted, there are a few stalls that have fallen to sell flea market things but they are still in the minority. I sell my baked goods and canned goods and plants. The last Friday out I have been cleaning out my storage locker and have a few flea market things to off on someone but I do try to stay faithful to the farmers market bill of fare.

    Laurie, your Chicken Noodle soup sounds great. Could do with some right now. It's cold and wet and rainy outside. That is a scary thing with your daughter Michelle. Hope she gets back to better soon and you figure out what caused it to happen! Points, you're not actually selling a Quart jar of canned pears for only $2.50 right? I haven't priced them here but there's no way we'd ever see them that inexpensive. I'll try remember to look when we're at the Farmer's Market this Saturday. I want to buy some melons, basil (to make pesto with for the winter supply) and a cabbage to make some cabbagerolls. If you attach your poetry to each jar you can up the price of your pears! Tee Hee. Meatball sub casserole sounds very yummy Lori. Enjoy your dinner out DT. Hi Donna. No the picture I posted this morning is actually on my Mom's property in Rainy River, Ontario. It's her laneway and I love it because when you walk it you feel like a very small thing in a very big world...it's humbling and comforting at the same time. Neat to hear that the Prime steaks were so good and such a good price too! Your dinner sounds A-One Excellent Val. Hi Deedee. I love Spanokapita. Hubby doesn't like the flaky crust though so I rarely make it. Hi Ang. Have a good evening.Pat...glad to hear you had another really nice day. Next weekend isn't too far away.

    It's $1.71 for raw materials then a 40% profit margin rounded up. $2.50 is a very fair price on both the seller and buyers end. But if it will make you feel better, I'll charge $3/quart. That's almost 100% mark up. The pears WERE free! It's a nice savings to pass along.

    Have some ice cream custard chilling before it gets run through the ice cream maker. It's vanilla infused with vanilla bean.

    I do feel better with the price increase Points and I'd like a bit of ice cream for dessert after my curry please. What kind of buyers do you get at your Farmer's Market? At the one I go to regularly the local Farmer's sell mostly to city people with a very good disposable income. It's almost a sin sometimes what the items are priced at. And at the other end of the spectrum, my Mom lives in a small farming community so it is very tough to sell vegetables to other farmers. The prices the Ottawa Farmers are getting as compared to the Rainy River Farmers arevastly different.
    Can't wait to see the recipe for the Almost Escargot Pat. I can't bring myself to eat a snail, but a piece of fungus...that's a whole other story. LOL.
    Ang...how did the 'boyfriend' make out in the end with his illness. Did it turn out to be Mono?

    Evening all. Spaghetti for us tonight, Oma style which is very different from mine but very good.

    Ang......not terrible of you! Didn't go to Cayce's open house either. After four kids I have learned it's really not that big of deal. I met all of his teachers at the orientation and know what goes on in his classes.

    Hope all have enjoyed their meals tonight. See you soon.

    The farmers market is in town. Although it is a farming community, there is a city dwelling contingent. Potatoes and tomatoes go for a dollar a pound. Some vendors do a brisk business selling greens. I don't eat greens so have never paid any attention to the selling price. There is the usual summer squash and sweet or hot peppers, beans, and the usual veggies although I have never seen any carrots. And some of the biggest cabbage I have ever seen. There are roadside vendors around town and on the outskirts that sell their goods at supermarket prices. They're wasting their time with me. I'm tempted to yell at them about having no overhead yet charging premium prices for the produce.

    Oooh Val, I'm going to attempt tortilla soup for the first time tomorrow!

    Janet, the picture you posted is lovely & the words you wrote about it are as well.

    Hope you enjoy the last bit of your vacation, Pat!

    As far as the farmer's market around me goes, I see a range in prices from one booth to the next on seemingly the same products. I always feel cheated when I pay $1.50 for something that's going for $1 right down the way. Lately I've been trying to see what's grown most locally and go for that, and then do some price comparisons but sometimes it's so crowded there I want to just get in and out. Definitely better than the grocery store's prices though.

    So much for dinner... I did meet with my girlfriend & it was lovely as it always is to spend time with her. We went to a Cuban restaurant that I suggested b/c I got it mixed up in my head with another place. The food was eh. We had mojitos which were more lime-y than anything but tolerable. The conversation was by far the highlight. We went for frozen yogurt and had vanilla chocolate swirl, fed my craving after all that ice cream talk. My beau is bringing me home some crab stuffed mushrooms, hope he gets here soon! Have to go pick up my brother from the airport at midnight...

    Good evening to all!
