These are a great and fun recipe to make. I got the recipe courtesy of Recipe Zaar and tweaked it a bit to my own tastes. I have to give proper credit to Organicmama for steering me in the right direction.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla or 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 10 ounce jar of maraschino cherries, drained
  • 12 ounce bag chocolate chips

Directions
  1. Combine the first 5 ingredients until well blended and smooth and place in fridge until firm.
  2. Meanwhile spread out the drained cherries on a cookie sheet and freeze for at least 1 hours.
  3. Scoop out about 1-2 teaspoon of filling and form into a ball, flatten it and form around a cherry.
  4. Place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet and freeze for 1 hr after you have formed them all.
  5. Melt chocolate and using a small fork dip each cherry placing it on a wax paper or foil lined cookie sheet and chill in fridge until chocolate is solid.
  6. Remove cherries carefully as not to break them open and lose the center.
  7. Place in an airtight plastic container and keep in a cool dry place for up to 1 month.

WOW! These sound so easy to do and will be my hubby's fav! He LOVES chocolate covered cherries! What do you think about adding crushed pecans to the filling?

Wow!! Yummy

Fantastic!!

Wow, this would be THE recipe that would make me want to like cherries....(bad episode as a child with way too many cherries and I can't eat them). The recipe looks wonderful and it would certainly be a pretty addition to any party!

I will try this before Christmas. Every year I give my husband his favorite...a box of chocolate covered cherries. I would love to make them for him and surprise him. This recipe sounds like I can do it with relative ease. Thankyou thankyou

Oh my thank you so much for this post, I love these, wish I could give you a 10, but you have my 5.

I haven't made chocolate covered cherries in ages, but homemade are so good--not like the ones in the store with the thick white yucky stuff in them. I'll have to try this recipe. When I made them before, the fondant (white stuff) kept trying to melt off when dipping and after a while made the chocolate seize (clump), so your freezing both cherries and fondant should solve that problem. It's also VERY nice if you can find the cherries with stems on. The dipping goes so much faster.

Now, the big problem will be waiting long enough for the fondant to liquefy before eating them all!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this recipe!

I am dreaming right? This is superb terrific wonderful..one of the things I know will be in Heaven! Thanks

Yay! I've been wanting to make these one of these years. This is the year!

I made these before rating them. It took great care, and everything had to be done right. But I enjoyed the challenge. I am going to let them sit till Christmas Eve. I ate one fresh made and it was very good. Will be divine once the center goes liqiud. My husband will be floored with my talent!!

This looks absolutely beautiful!thanks for the post.
