Ingredients
  • 2-Tablespoons Onion powder
  • 4- Cups potatoes (cut into medium pieces)
  • 2- Small (8 oz.) cans of tomato sauce
  • 2- Small (6 oz.) cans of tomato paste
  • 2- Lbs. ground chuck
  • 2- Teaspoons Salt
  • 4- Cups water

Directions
  1. In a 5 qt. Dutch oven (or larger stock pot), brown ground beef then drain off grease.
  2. In the same pot, add back the ground beef and the tomato sauce, tomato paste, salt, onion powder and 4 cups of water.
  3. Heat to a simmer boil. (Using medium heat)
  4. Add the potatoes and cook covered on low-med for 1 ½ to 2 hours until the potatoes are done (stirring occasionally).

Funny name why does it called monkey stew,


Don't know why. That's just what my mama always called it. I think that she got the recipe from my Nana in Boaton many years ago. My daddy was from Boston.

IF No monkeys were used...THEN maybe your NANA made it for HER little Monkeys.lol IT is funny I am a NANA,and I called my GRANDSON when HE was small"MY little MONKEY".Sometimes I still do .lol Great post,happy cooking:).
