Ingredients

How to make it

  • Spray the crock with Pam
  • put in the package of thighs usually around 8
  • Rinse the can of Kraut and put over the top of the chicken
  • Pour 1/2 bottle of salad dressing over the Kraut
  • Sprinkle the caraway seeds over the top
  • I always start chicken 1 hr. on high and then move to low heat for the rest of the time. I do this recipe 8 to 10 hours. It is so tender you will have trouble removing it from the crock.

Sadie...you do rock! I tried this recipe tonight based on Lillian's recommendation. I used chicken pieces and I used garlic instead of caraway seeds. I was also a little heavy handed with the bottle of Catalina salad dressing and probably poured 3/4 of a bottle almost in instead of 1/2 a bottle. When I read the part about rinsing the sauerkraut I just couldn't bring myself to do it, because I LOVE sauerkraut and the idea of rinsing it sounded almost sacrilegious to me, so I drained it, didn't rinse it.
Well, I'd give it a 8/5 if I could. It was very, very nice and I was a bit hesitant because the ingredients are indeed a bit odd. But I thank you for your post. It will become a much used recipe in this household from now on. Kudos.

I would never have thought of a sauerkraut/chicken dish...but I love both ingredients a lot. Given Lillian's great review I am going to give it a shot myself. Thanks so much for a neat idea.

Sadie you rock!!! I made this tonight and it was OMG good!!! I made it as written except I used 10 boneless, skinless thighs and instead of caraway seeds I used 4 cloves of chopped garlic. I can't believe how easy and tasty this was! The sauerkraut tasted like carmelized onions and the chicken just melts in your mouth. And I had to soak up the delicious juices with bread! I will be making this ALOT! I added my photo.

Oh, by the way...I used a 27oz. can of sauerkraut.

I really really really like sauerkraut--the caraway seeds are absolutely right. You might try also a cut-up apple in there.

Thanks so much for your rating and comment--I really appreciate it.

I think sauerkraut is so-so, but my hubby loves it. We will try this one - looks like something we'll both like!
