Ingredients
  • This is a very large recipe;
  • COOKIES:
  • This i3 1/2 pounds of flour (10-12 cups)
  • l pound Crisco or other shortening (1 1/2 cups)
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 small yeast cakes or 1 large yeast cake (or 2 packets/powdered yeast dissolved in 1/2 cup very warm water).
  • 12 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 regular-size box raisins
  • 4 tablespoons Hershey cocoa
  • 1 can Hershey syrup (regular-size)
  • 3 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3 tsp clove
  • 3 tsp ginger
  • Buttermilk - about 2/3 pint - as needed
  • Nuts - as many as you'd like I often use chopped walnuts or pine nuts
  • GLAZE:
  • 2 1/2 cups confectioner
  • Orange juice

Directions
  1. COOKIES:
  2. Mix everything together.
  3. Take dough by teaspoon and place on cookie sheet lined with tin foil.
  4. Bake at 400 about 10 minutes.
  5. Watch carefully.
  6. Add thin white glaze when cool.
  7. GLAZE:
  8. To Make Icing: Combine 2 1/2 cups confectioner's sugar with enough orange juice to make a thin glaze. Dip each hot cookie into glaze; cool on racks. Decorate with confetti sprinkles, if desired.

OK - so do you mix in batches, have a REALLY heavy duty mixer, or do your arm exercises mixing by hand? My goodness that is a whole lot of batter! I'm with you, I love the blend of chocolate and orange flavors, too.

Michael, I made these lucios cookies this weekend as I prepare to take them home to meet my family for the holidays. This recipe is a definite keeper! My cookies were moist and yummy. I used a little orangecello orange liquer in the frosting and oh my! A real winner I intend to make every Christmas and incorporate into my family's traditions. Thank you for sharing!
