Pleclare's Almost Escargot

Wow! This is a crazy, amazing, awesome, fantastic appetizer. The absolute best word to describe it is "Decadent".
    I made Pleclare's
    Almost Escargot
last night as an appetizer for guests and everyone at the table gave it mega high-5's. This is an excellent show stopper treat that will have your friends raving about your skills in the kitchen.
It's also great because you can do the majority of the prep in advance. I also used gruyere as Pat had and I think thats really the way to go. Instead of bread cubes, I just put three slices of baguette on the side of the plate for everyone to use to sop up the sauce. When I took the plates off the table, they were wiped clean!
I will totally make this recipe again and again and again. It's incredible! Pat....Thank you soooooo much!

It is wonderful and decadent as Janet said. So,so happy you all loved it. This recipe came directly from a chef at the Common Man. He had done it on a Morning TV show...The pic is great Janet and those plates look like they worked well. Will have to check something like that out...

I looked for this "Gruyere" cheese in 2 stores with no luck. I guess I will have to use the cheddar. These look and sound great and cant wait to try

Hey Mr Piggy :) gruyere is usually sold in the specialty case near the deli section, around here... not in the dairy case where the other cheeses are. It's rather pricey, but it's worth it. :) If you happen to see fontina, you could sub it...

honestly... I don't think the cheddar sounds NEARLY as good with this as the meltier, white cheeses we're talking about.... and I love cheddar :) Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it'd be great...it's still gonna be a sinfully rich dish...can't wait to see what you end up using and what you think! :)

I want to find Gruyere. There are way too many great reviews that used it. I did see fontina. Or at least I think I did. Heck I looked through so many different cheeses I cant be sure, now. I never realized there were so many. I will have to try again tomorrow. Dont want the mushrooms to go bad. Thanks Keni.

I finally found gruyere cheese at Raley's. Although, my joy was cut short when I got to the register. $17 per pound. YIKES. Do you guys always eat like that? I still cant wait to have this, though. I will be trying it this coming weekend. Sure hope I dont mess it up :(

Mr. Piggy,$4.99 for 12 oz. sjhredded swiss and gruyere at Trader Joe's. That's good by me. Think hubby would shoot me if I paid that much for cheese. If I did,I certainly wouldn't tell him.LOL!

Geez, thats a big difference. I wish there was a Trader Joe's close by. No matter. I know this is going to be good. I was just shocked. I'll come back here after I make it.....hopefully with a success story and not an oops :) Thanks Pleclare

We don't have a Trader Joes either but we do have it at Sam's and it's just as cheap...do you have one of those? Gruyere is so good though and I know you'll love it!

No Sams here, momluvs2cook. I dont know of one anywhere close by. My next trip to Santa Rosa (60 miles) I will hit Trader Joe's and grab some. I just hope the $12 little teeny brick I did get will be enough

OK, I finally made this. It was awesome. It looked nothing like Keni's or Chuckieb's, though. For lack of kitchen accessories I made it in an 8x8. I couldnt really understand what to do with the puff pastries (let alone knowing what they were when shopping for them, and the directions on the box confused me even more), so I started them first then added the mushrooms on the other rack. After both were done, I assumed I was to put them on top of the mushrooms. It was only me and my daughter. After 1.75 lbs of Halibut, 2 cups of brown rice and 30 mushrooms in this, all I had left was rice. I forget my daughter can almost eat as much as I can at a sitting. just less sittings. This was a great, great dish Pleclare

Nice job, sir! :) The puff pastries, honestly, seemed a lil awkward to me, and I didn't even bother with them..as, I think pleclare said, as well :)

It doesn't matter how they looked, as long as they tasted scrumptious! Hope it was worth the hassle of that darn cheese. ;)

Oh it was worth it, alright. In fact I only used up half of that million dollar cheese. That means I have to go get more of that Bearnaise stuff and mushrooms :)

Line me up Keni. Whatcha got for gruyere? You know, this "cheese" is really good. I mean really good But I have to say....... its also a PITA. Its hard to spell, hard to pronounce and hard to find. Oh, but it is easy to shred and doesn't stick all over :)

I positive that Keni has some fabulous recipes with gruyere but I though I'd show you my favorite with it:
Grilled Sausage Sandwiches With Caramelized Onions And Gruyere Cheese
The caramelized onions are great in this, too!
