How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350' Place 6 mushrooms in greased sections of escargot dishes or ceramic dishes. Top each mushroom with garlic butter ,bernaise and cheese.. Place extra muxshrooms,smooth side up in center(1 per dish).
  • Bake 18-20 mins till mushrooms are soft and cheese golden.Place bread cubes on plate on the side and puff pastry squares on top of casserole as garnish.
  • Garlic butter:Blend 1 lb. softened butter and 1/8 c chopped garlic and 1 T dry parsley
  • Discos: 1 sheet store bough puff pastry,partially defrosted. Cut with pizza cutter into 1" squares.
  • Bake according to box directions.
  • Roughly 3 oz garlic butter and bernaise per dish.

    I loved this! I made a homemade bearnaise sauce http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Bearnaise-Sauce/Detail.aspx?prop31=1. I for some reason did not read about removing the stems and left them on but they were all pretty short so it worked out okay. Also used gruyere ;) Yummy!

    These look and sound incredible, but I too am completely confused by the instructions when it gets to the part about the bread cubes and puff pastry. Can ANYONE clear it up??

    ...eh...these were okay....;) Kidding, of course... they are fantastic! Calories aren't a huge issue, here, and though we don't eat quite this decadent on a regular basis, there was no guilt in devouring every last one, including the stems I added to an extra well. ;) These are as rich as it gets! Now, I did use baby bellas, my own sauce, and gruyere...and I didn't do the puff pastry. I was gonna... even had some cute cutters I was gonna cut out shapes with it, but finally just decided it wasn't needed.... and, we didn't miss it. Great addition, pleclare, and I'm glad you brought it to the site! :)

    This is one of the best appetizers we have ever had in our lives. The best word to describe it is "Decadent" with a capital "D". It's amazing! I used Gruyere cheese as Pat suggested and instead of bread cubes, I just cut three little pieces of baguette and set them on the side of the plate to use to mop up the delectable sauce. Everyone's plate was totally wiped clean. This is really an incredible appetizer. Thanks so much Pat. Will be making this again, and again, and again.

    Pat...I've been eyeing up this recipe for awhile. I've seen Bearnaise sauce sold in envelopes in the store. Is there a jarred kind that would work better? What do you use?

    Love escargot. This looks so yummy. Is it wrong to just make this for myself since I am the only one to like mushrooms in my house? Really, I don't care. Making this tomorrow!
