    Good morning everyone!

    Happy Birthday wishes for Bryan!!

We had leftover baked pasta for dinner yesterday. Today I'm making the chicken wings, sweet potatoes & most likely a salad. The collard greens didn't do well with being frozen & thawed. Oh we'll, lesson learned. Plan to work on laundry & housework today, as well as run an errand to pick up cleaning supplies. Kris is feeling better, thanks for the well wishes.

    Have a great day!

Good Morning Everybody! Happy Birthday Bryan! The big 5-OH! :)
Yum on the chicken wings tonight Dahlia and so glad to hear Kris is feeling better today! Cute pictures. I'm guessing your nieces and then snowflakes? in your hair? Are they real? They look like perfect crystals! :)
Hi Marie! Have a good drive! :) How long does it take you to reach Sacramento from your place if it's good driving conditions?
Well, Jim and I received a lovely long e-mail from Benjamin this morning complete with two little videos and a bunch of pictures. Heaven! :) He is happy and pumped and exhausted. Has met a couple of other people there who are also looking for English teaching jobs and he traversed his 'hood' a bit and found food and a bookstore (true sustenance to Benjamin) :).
You mentioned yesterday Lori that I seemed to be holding up well. :) It was the prelude to Benjamin leaving that I was having a hard time with. Once that occurred, despite being a little freaked out for his safety being so far away in such a foreign place, I am elated and excited for his adventure. Hurray on the Duffel bag for Bryan. That's an excellent present. What's a Napoleon? It rings a bell but I can't think exactly what it is. Excellent decision not to offer dinner on Sunday and if Bryan wants to order pizza then that will be a bonus. Here's to some "Lori" time next week.
Didn't realize "The Melting Pot" was such a big chain. I am going to have to google and see if there are any around the Sunnyvale area.
I'm going to make my Grandma McDonald's
    Sweet And Sour Spare Ribs
for dinner this evening. Comfort food! Baked potato on the side and need to think of a veg.
    Have a great day everyone!

    Good day ODD gang.
Going to get my nails done. They have reached the talon stage. None broken yet, woohoo. I'm letting Angie pick her design. Liv is going along too..she is trying to grow her nails and not bite them off. Having lunch at BEAKS Old Florida.

Some kind of jambalaya for supper. I have sausage, chicken thighs, rice, the trinity fixin's. Making it early so we can got to Painting with a Twist, if they have an opening for us.

Dahlia, the link for the restaurants were in yesterday's thread. Happy to hear that Kris is feeling better.

Marie, take care while driving. Good Morning! You are up early. Hope you find all that you need and can get home quickly.

    Hello to all.

Oh, yeah Lori, glad that you made it to Party City and got your shopping done.

Dahlia, What a cute pic of Tokyo and I am going to guess those cuties are your nieces? The other pic I am guessing on also is it pretty snowflakes on your shoulder? LOL I know it isn't dandruff!!!! That is excellent news about Kris feeling much better. Enjoy your chicken wings, sweet potato and salad and don't do too much today!

Marie, Careful driving in that fog! Ugh! Hopefully it will lift and you have a good time today. Very good news about Rick being swamped with work now too! Hey isn't that what being in business yourself is all about?

Kimmer, I wish I could have fondue as often as you do but sadly it has been about five or more years since we have had one too!

Lori, A VERY HAPPPY FIFTHITH BIRTHDAY TO BRYAN!!! You did everything in the nick of time once again! YOU ARE AMASING!!! I know you have soo much on your plate with everything going on just try and pace yourself and then make sure you get some quality time in for you! Sending good loving thoughts to your Mom.:)

Janet, More great news from Ben is always welcome. I am pleased he has hooked up with some people and checking everything out. Is he staying in a dorm or does he have his own room at the Hostel? Ribs are yummy for the tummy too!

Tina, I know you will enjoy getting your nails done b/c you always have a great time there. No doubt she will do some super creative thing with your nails. Have fun on your painting date with Fred. It should be a hoot!

All the talk about flu shots. I don't get them anymore b/c every time I did I got terribly
sick. I will have to go out at some point today to pick up some milk an bread and stuff but it is such a nice sunny day I won't mind at all. We are having pork tenderloin something and that is as far as I know at the moment.

    Have a great day everyone!

Bad news on the frozen collard greens. That is just what I did with mine. Thanks for mentioning so I know what to expect. Perhaps they can be repurposed into a version of cream of spinach soup. That might work. These are two of my spinach soups:
Cream Of Spinach And Mushroom Soup
    Spinach Soup

I see Janet and I are on the same food wave. I have ribs rubbed down for dinner. I used my goto Sauteed Apples and most likely fries. This will make the men folk happy and I won't mind a bit.

Off to Costco. Hopefully it won't be a lost mission like my last attempt.

How fun Tina! A Mom and Liv Day! :) What kind of restaurant is BEAKS? I've never had Jambalaya but I love the word. :)
Hi Joce! Have a fun shop. It is a lovely day out there today! Benjamin is in a dorm setting and I think there are either 8 or 10 people in his room. He paid a little extra to get a bottom bunk. He was able to eat all meals yesterday for $5 total.
This is what he had for breakfast.

It looks pretty good hey! :)
    Enjoy your pork tenderloin.
Your dinner sounds wonderful Laura! Good luck on your Costco trip!

Good Morning! Thanks for the bday wishes for Bryan, I will relay them to him. :)

Glad Kris is feeling better, Dahlia. Cute pix! Love the snowflakes.

Have a good trip, Marie! I hate driving in that kind of weather...esepcially on curvy mtn roads!

Janet, I'm so glad that Benj is so excited and that you feel better. Such an amazing experience for him. I can't wait to see pictures!! A Napoleon is traditionally French. Layers of puff pastry and pastry cream. These seemed to have cake layers instead. I got one chocolate and one strawberry. The chocolate has all chocolate fillings. The strawberry has yellow cake, white filling with layers of a strawberry glaze that looks like it has pieces of strwaberry in it. They are individual portions, but, large enough to share. My plan is for each of us to have 1/2 of each one...we shall see!

Enjoy your day off, Tina! Girl time with Liv, and date night with Fred. The best of both worlds! :) Hope they have room for you at the art class. Jambalaya sounds awesome.

I got Bryan good this morning. I waited til he was sound asleep last night, then I got up and put little notes everyone. I put one on the bathroom mirror that said "what 50 looks like"! lol One said "wowee you're FIFTEE", and several just had the number 50. Put them on the cereal box, inside the fridge, everywhere I knew he'd be this morning. :) He requested Steak, Baked Potatoes and Laughing Cow Peppers for dinner. I am broiling the steaks cause I don't like to grill in the dark, so, there won't be baked potatoes since I don't have 2 ovens right now. I won't have time to get everything done in the oven before he gest there. I think I will make
    Italian Fingerling Potatoes
and we can smash them with cheese, sourcream, etc and they will be similar in taste. The steaks will be done using Alton Brown's recipe which I totally forgot to post last time...help me remember to post them tomorrow! lol

Hey to all not here yet! Have a great day!

Hey Joce and Laura. Missed you while I was writing my novella.

Hope you have a sucessful shopping trip, Laura! I love sauteed apples...I'm gonna have to check out your link. Reminds me of when I was a kid. My mom had a dress shop when I was growing up (I worked there 10 years after I was grown). Anyway, with I was in 5th and 6th grade, she had a 2nd dress shop in Gatlinburg. During the summer, I got to go with her every Monday and run around. (Couldn't let a 10 year old girl do that now days!). She would treat me to breakfast, and I loved to go to the Apple Tree In. I would get a side order of hash browns and a side order of apples for breakfast every time! :) Sauteed apples are a favorite food and attached to a favorite memory! Gonna have to check out the soup links, too!

Hope you have a good shopping trip too Joce. I don't know if I would use the word "amazing" as much as "ALWAYS LATE" lol! But thanks, and thanks for the kind words for Mom. I love pork tenderloin, need to fix one soon.

Funny about the post it notes!! Lori, send along my best wishes as well.

Beaks is a kitchy quirky place. Decorated with tacky Florida souvenirs and parrots. It was an over 21 only restaurant for a long time and new owners bought it and have toned it down to be family friendly. Domenica Macchia is the new chef and we loved her food at Diner 437 and then at Shackleton's Folly. Dom tends to restaurant hop and is always up for new challenges. She makes the most awesome spinach with garlic/lemon. Liv loves her grilled caprese sandwich.

Got to run...we are going to be late!!!!

Laura, Thanks for the link to the Sauteed Apples it looks easy and delicious. I bookmarked it to try. Now I will have to remember to pick up some apples soon!

Janet, Wow Ben's breakfast looks amazing! Now how cool is that! Plus how incredibly inexpensive to eat there! Who knows Ben might meet some life long friends while he is in the dorm too. One of my friend's son's here did the same thing as Ben maybe twenty 30 years ago now. He met his beautiful wife there (who is actually from Yellowknife) had two children there and they both taught there until they retired back here. His two girls speak something like seven or eight languages and OMG as I think about it they are both young adults by now!!! Time sure does flash by!!!

Lori, I am sure Bryan was thrilled with his cute thoughtful notes everywhere.:) It just goes to show you even if you just did that it would be just fine. I am sure you will have a really great dinner tonight.

Pic in my avatar was one Benjamin sent us last night. It is of the Red House Theatre. It was built in 1908 when Taipei was under Japanese Rule. It was initially a Market building but was transformed in 1945 to a Theatre and used so ever since. The Ground Floor also houses a small cafe.

That's cool about your friend's son Joce! :) Indeed, Benjamin is on a grand adventure. Who knows what will transpire? It's the stuff of dreams.

    Ran some errands this morning
I got a call from someone at Grace Beaty (lady gaga and guess) the woman called from NY they are downsizing and all the Account executives got laid off including my boss Susan ( the one who wanted me to work for her but I said she had a reputation for crazy) she didn't have any rhyme or reason to the list of names she was given she just knew I worked for the company. Anyway she gave me 10 hours next week and I have 21 for Parlux nex week had to take them it's the only hours I have for January but I was honest with her that I also worked for Parlux to which she said I heard they have some shake ups going on over there too. Yikes.
Meeting my friend for lunch then more errands
Picking my sister up at the airport at 7 pm

FYI Lori, although not as perfect as baked potatoes, done in the microwave they really do come out quite well. Just not with the crunchy outside. Its a time saver and if you make stuffers from the potato you can even do them ahead. Just a thought.

Hey Laurie. Enjoy your visit with your sister! Nice to have some hours for January.

Thanks, Laura...I never mastered "baked" potatoes in the microwave. They are always not done enough, or way too done. : / I haven't tried in years, though. Hmmm...I will have to ponder that! If I still had a toaster oven I'd stick the peppers in it. I miss that...maybe I need to pick one up soon. Wonder if 450 would way over do the peppers if I kept an eye on them and shortened the time....

well ok...I'm making this harder than it has to be. lol Imagine that. I will just pan sear the steaks instead of broiling. DUH. Then I can bake his taters the way he likes iwth the crispy skin, and do the peppers too. Don't you just love the light bulb moments? lol
I have ribeyes...will make one of these
Porterhouse Steaks With Jack Daniels Pan Sauce
Pan Seared Steak With Caper Anchovy Butter (without the anchovies for Bryan)

I haven't had the greatest success doing potatoes in the microwave either. To me the consistency seems more 'pasty'?
Hurray for the lightbulb Lori! :) I vote for the Steak with the Jack Daniel's sauce (I do get a vote right?) :) because I, like Bryan, don't think I like anchovies.
I've got the floors all done and the house clean. Just swabbing down the bathrooms left.

And after all this...he just texted me and said he doesn't feel like eating a big dinner. He is having lots of pain and numbness in his arm...which is new...and sounds like his back getting worse or a pinched nerve. Sigh. I really don't have anything now except sandwiches. AAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!!

OH NO Lori! That's a drag! And here poor you has been fretting away all day as to how to make it come together. Oh dear. Or...bless your heart...as you would say! :) Sorry to hear his arm is hurting. Watch that. Almost sounds like heart attack symptoms . Not to freak you out, but he should be careful and head to the clinic if it gets any worse. You don't want to play around with stuff like that. Have a good evening no matter what you end up having. Maybe you could just eat the dessert? :) Hugs.

We're back..it wasn't even foggy, but freezing! Had to make a bank run, now I'm home for good..still need to figure out something for dinner..
Janet, cool avatar! To answer your question, it's about 100 miles 1 way..it usually takes 2 hours or so round trip...(I think, I lose track of time while traveling, I'll have to check when we leave and when we get back next time! We stop for a quick breakfast and coffee as well)

Joce, YES! that's what being in business for yourself is all about..funny, it's either completely dead or crazy busy:)

Lori, I kindof skimmed thru (cause I'm beat) how is your Mom doing today..? Hope she is able to eat something....xoxox AND Happy Birthday to Bryan:)

I need a cup of coffee and figure out what's for dinner!!!!

    I will check back:)
