Walmike's Wednesday!

  • chuckieb 13 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! "Hump Day" today. Hubby has Badminton this evening so I've taken some frozen Chili out to thaw and I'm having Chili Dogs for dinner!
Today's picture was taken by my Sister-in-law. She is a nurse in Anchorage and loves to go on drives all over the State. She took this not too long ago of a "Walmike's" (vs. Walmart) in Trapper Creek. As she says "Only in Alaska". LOL!
Have a great day and Happy Cooking!

I'm up early today. Gotta be to keep up with you early birds.

Tagged myself in a couple pics of Jess with her boyfriend and her friend Joey in their Halloween makeup if anyone would like to check it out on FB. They did a really good job of it.

Looking forward to Lori's chicken with some scalloped potatoes tonight. So hungry...

Gotta call the nurse today. While we were changing the ostomy last night noticed it is reddish pink and sore around the edges. Cross your fingers nothing is wrong with it. I know it is sore. Hoping that is normal with all the extra moving around I've been doing since I've been home.

    Good Morning!!
NO MORE POLITICAL COMMERCIALS!!! WHOOOOPPPEEEEEE! Hopefully we have positive changes...I didn't like the majority of the choices I had, though, so we'll see. Hoping we have the lesser of the two evils elected. lol

So...you know you need a life when you dream about GR. rofl. Ang, I dreamed you were opening a cafe and some of us here in ODD were helping you get it open. You were gonna call in the Family Fryer Cafe...I guess you were serving fried food?

I'm loving that pic Janet!! Thanks for sharing it with us. That is too funny. Glad you enjoyed the chicken, and hope you like it too, Brooke!

Dahlia, just read your post last night about your pic of the pumpkins...I love that you both bought some as a surprise! And Bryan is right there with your beau on the food picture taking...sometimes I think I'm going to draw back a nub. lol I don't have a good space or the right dishes to take as good a pix as some of the others, Brooke, I don't think I'll ever have one up there either. lol Bryan told me I need to buy some props and new dishes so I could take better pictures! Not that he would ever be sarcastic or anything... : )

Pat your dinner sounds wonderful! Help me out...is the sauce posted seperately from the meatballs, or do I need to put my glasses on? I totally saved those meatballs to try!

I'm craving pasta salad, so gonna make one tonight. Not sure what else. Bryan works tonight and tomorrow night. I always make the salad the night before, so will have that to put in my lunch tomorrow.
    Pasta Salad Supreme/saved

    Have a great day everyone!!

    Good morning everyone!

Janet, that picture is too funny! thanks for sharing. Chili dogs sound good.

P7O your dinner sounds good too. I've never made that before but the one re-featured on the homepage looks might delicious!

Pat, your dinner also sounds awesome! I've never made meatballs before but it's on my list.. that salad dressing also sounds very nice, thanks for sharing the link.

Ang, fingers and toes crossed for you that there's nothing wrong and it's just a bit irritating.

I'm with you on being relieved that there are no more ads to watch. So much trash talking and smearing of each other with so little of telling what's good about themselves.. what a waste of time & money. Lori, I feel like people might get tired of looking at my green plates so I try to change it up here and there (have a couple white ones and some little sushi dishes) but I think as long as the food looks good I'm pleased. And even more importantly if it tastes good!! Whew! that is some pasta salad! and hahaha @ your dream. I go to bed & wake thinking about cooking & the site so you're not the only one :)

There was frost on the ground this morning (and yesterday) when I walked my dog. Pretty chilly out there! but sunny and blue skies - so gorgeous! For dinner I'm making Salt Pepper Salmon, serving it with leftover Port Wine Cheddar Mac Cheese and green beans w/shallots and possibly some portabella. I really wanted to make Lori's Horseradish Asiago Encrusted Salmon but there's so much cheese going with the mac already I'm saving this one for the next time I make salmon - probably next week! I have my zucchini bread experiment in the oven and it should be done in time to drop onto the cooling rack before I leave for yoga. It's starting to smell good!

Hope you all have a great day & hi to everyone who's not here yet!

    Thanks, Lori!

So about 50 minutes into baking time I peaked in to check on my bread and panicked when I found the top had risen to the point it was touching the rack above it! I pulled it out as fast as I could but it doesn't look as perfect as it would have had I moved the rack up prior - duh! but it smells good so I'm hoping ...

Pat, very cool about the throw down! so that'll be the recipe I use when I finally make meatballs (or should I say - when I finally get my beau to shape the help me by shaping the meatballs while I instruct him..hah you know I can't touch raw meat!)

Dahlia, I bet your bread will be wonderful anyway. I can smell it from here...lol
Hope you do try the Asiago/Horseradish Salmon some time. I love it. (Bryan does too, although it's fish so you couldn't get him to actually SAY it, but he always gets seconds...). LOL on the pasta salad...it really is full of "stuff". It makes a big container full, too. Bryan always had me add to the one we used to buy at Fresh Market when we brought it home, so I started playing around one day and came up with this one. Probably had a margarita or 4 in the process...lol

Good day to everyone! That's a great picture, Janet. I'll bet a trip to that store would be much more fun than a trip to Wal-Mart (I HATE Wal-Mart!). I haven't had a chili dog in ages!
Enjoy your manicotti, Points! I absolutely love manicotti! I always add fresh, sauteed spinach to my filling, it is so yummy.
I'm glad the political ads, signs, etc. are over now, but I too am not necessarily celebrating the direction in which our election went. :(
Laurie, thanks for the idea! I was wondering what to make my beau tonight as I want to have fish, but I can't always get him to eat it! You reminded me that I have a steak in the freezer that I can feed him! :)
Pat, your dinner sounds awesome, I'll be saving those recipes to try for sure! I haven't yet found a "from scratch" sauce recipe that I really like - maybe this will be it?
Hi, Ang - Hope everything is OK and it is just a minor irritation from movement. Fingers crossed with Dahlia! :)
Hey, Lori - So excited to try the chicken!! I would do it tonight, but I don't have the kids and I want them to be able to taste it too! I love pasta salad!!
Hi, Dahlia - Those mini pumpkins are too cute! Love them! I've never heard of such a thing. And how cute that you both bought them to surprise each other - must be a match made in heaven!! :) I'll have to start taking pictures - that's not really the problem, I don't know much about downloading, resizing, etc. I'm about as leary of the computer as you are of raw meat - believe or not!! :) So how did the bread taste?? I'm sure it is fabulous!! Did you ever post those Cocoa Krispie cookies?
Hi, Wynne - I'm with you, I always get so hungry when I read the posts and look at the recipes here. :)

Pat, thanks for the update on Val. Miss having her around.

    Wynne, congrats on the feature!

The zucchini bread turned out pretty well with a nice crusty sweet outside and moist inside. I think it could have used more zucchini though... still very tasty!

Hi Everyone! Points, the Manicotti sounds awesome. I don't have as much leftover chili as I thought so am heating up some chicken broth and am going to try out those Turkey dumplings that I bought a couple of weeks ago. I don't even know what to do with them and never had them before, so we're winging it. Turns out they are called "Pelmeni" which is a Russian goody. Wish me luck.
I would prefer however to head to Laurie's house for a good steak. That would really hit the spot.
Your dinner also sounds awesome Pat. I read on the other thread by Wendy that your Daughter graduated from Journalism. I took that myself in college and never pursued it. LOL!
Hey Ang...fingers crossed on my end that everythings okay with you. Keep us tuned. You don't want to fool around with that kind of thing. Go to the Doctor tomorrow for sure. You don't want some infection to settle in, that'd be horrid. Just go take care of yourself. (Can you say "Yes Mom" LOL) Jess and Joey look the very coolest. That is fantastic. They did an amazing job!
LOL that you're dreaming about GR Lori. LOL.
Your dinner sounds most excellent as always Dahlia and you always take the best pictures!
Hi Corinne! Fajitas sound amazing and speaking of amazing....your Easy Chicken Kiev recipe ON THE HOMEPAGE! Congrats. It looks soooooo good. I've totally bookmarked it to try. Regular Chicken Kiev is a pain in the bum and I couldn't care less if the garlic butter is over top or inside. This is awesome!
    Hi Brooke!
FYI Corinne and Lori...you are certainly not in a rut making the same old thing for dinner as I follow you daily on what you're making and there's rarely a repeat! And...if there's anywhere you can get some inspiration....GR is it. Am I right or am I right?

lol Janet...thank you...I feel like I'm in a rut for sure...maybe I just need some excitement. : ) I am in the mood to expand my horizons though, fix some new things that I haven't tried before. Maybe I will get some inspiration tonight...gonna prowl through some recipes...maybe even drag down my poor neglected cookbooks.Bryan says he doesn't know how I ever managed to cook before the internet...rofl. I can't wait to hear how the Turkey dumplings turn out.

Ang, I am glad they wanted to see you. Janet's right, you really don't want infection, and that red could be a warning sign. Hopefully not. But, better safe than sorry. The kids did awesome with their makeup. I missed it before. It's funny...seems like I see someting I missed earlier every time I come in.

    Brooke that marinade sounds yummy!

All your dinners sound so good. I really want to get in there and at least make the pasta salad for tomorrow. But here I am with the house to myself for the nite, no one that I have to cook for, and the kitchen is already clean...LOL Sometimes I LOVE cooking when it's like that...for some reason, tonight I just keep sitting here and trying to get the motivation to get started.

Oh my, that fish was SO GOOD!! Unfortunately, the salmon did not fill up "the man"! :) He's still hungry! I think I'll post that fish - you marinate it with honey dijon dressing and saute it in a pan. I did that then I got some inspiration and at the very end, broke up the fish and added some fresh spinach and cooked that down and mixed it in. Oh, I wish I had a big pile of it to keep eating and eating. That will be a keeper!

The last pic was Jess and Keegan, her BF. This one is Joey, Jess and Keegan. They seem to be the three stooges lately. Can't hardly get rid of those boys. They are here every night. Steve is getting a little grumpy over the food they are eating. LOL

Still trying to get a hold of my dad for a ride in the morning. Hope he can then I can get to the hospital to see my sis. If Steve takes me there won't be time. He'll have to get to work as soon as he can. And of course I'll go. Nurse Don is a total sweetie and I know he'll fix me right up with whatever I need.

I'm jumping on that bandwagon...Lori that chicken is delicious!!!!
