Wonderful Wednesdays

  • MotherAnn 8 years ago
Good morning all! I'm about to head out the door for work and have no idea what we're going to have for dinner. I do know it's going to contain ground beef because that's what I pulled out. I also know it's going to have to use what I have in the cupboard as we're eating on the cheap this week. Hubby has to tear into a clogged bathroom drain when he gets home so it needs to be quick and easy so I can help out if needed.... I have canned tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, onions, garlic, potatoes, and some frozen beans, peas or corn. I know I also have some canned "cream of" soups as well. Any ideas for me? We just had burgers so not interested in that. A casserole of some sort would be great. I also have some elbow macaroni and noodles. Nothing is coming to mind for me. I'll be back this afternoon -have a great day!

Hi MA, Have a great day. We're off to Fuengirola along the coast a bit for a walk along the beach parade --- Great seeing the beach on one side and shops resaurants on the other -- The wee diva is in her element. Will be shortish walk as still abit hot and humid here. We'll probably stop somewhere and have a tapas and a small glass of beer.
For your meal --how about a versión of this --- you don't need the carrot etc just sub the mushrooms and use macaroni or other ---- the sauce is rich anyway --- need a bit cheese for spreading -- hope helps. cheers

Good morning MotherAnn:) Good afternoon Don:)

Oh dear on the plumbing problems MotherAnn! I hate that..I'm sure both you and your hubby will have your plumbing fixed in no time:) Here's a couple of recipes:
    Shepherds Pie
    Hamburger Stew
Also, a neat way to search recipes here at GR= on the "Recipes" tab at the top of the page , click that and then click "Search"..you can search a recipe listing the ingredients you have on hand! Pretty cool:)
I like Don's idea for your dinner as well!!!

Don, have a lovely walk along the beach! Gosh, can we trade places for just one day?!

    Dinner,? No clue..:)

    A big hello to all!

Good Morning Ann! I must say I was pleased A) to see someone had already started the Morning thread and B) that there are so many new recipes posted on the Home Page. This new influx of people is very nice. :) I do not envy you helping with the clogged bathroom drain. Sounds like you're well set for a quick dinner prep. The first recipe that came to mind for me is Donna's Salisbury Steak deluxe.
    Salisbury Steak Deluxe
With the addition of the horse radish it really amps it up. I'm sure everyone else will have some good suggestions for you as well. We are all very jealous of your walks to the beach or to the bar. :)
Your poached trout last night sounded wonderful Don! As did your entire meal!
Jim and I LOVE "Who do you think you are" Marie. We PVR it and actually watched an episode last night. Yesterday traipsing through grave yards, libraries and Land Registry Office's felt very much like we were on our very own episode! Had a lot of fun and learned a lot! Today I have to sit down and get it all up on my Ancestry.ca site so I don't forget everything. By the time we got home last night at 7:30 my eyes were circling around in my head from all the facts and figures. It was a lot of fun though. Was killing myself laughing at your car wash story. How fun!
Am having tea with a girlfriend at 10:30. Haven't finished going through yesterday's posts. Hi to everybody. I'll be back...(said in my best Arnie voice) :)

    Good morning Janet:)
Yeah, I almost felt like a little kid in the carwash with Dad..I was oohing and awing at the water spraying..it was like we were in a heavy downpour of rain:-) Glad he nudged me, otherwise we'd probably still be there..lol
You know I feel the same way watching "Who Do You Think You Are"...Do you know of any free sites to start searching for my ancestors? I just don't want to have to sign up and pay a monthly fee..if that's possible..I can just imagine my ancestors sitting by their TeePee eating some buffalo jerky..weird, :-D

Mexican Chicken And Tortilla Casserole for dinner & a salad..I'll add some sliced Jalapeno to the casserole, like I always do for some heat:)

No idea what to have for dinner but it probably will involve pork chops since two are thawed in the refrigerator.

Don, enjoy your walk on the beach - my husband would envy you, since he likes being on the beach.

MA, Janet's suggestion is a good one. Good luck finding the perfect recipe.

Hope both of you ancestor-hunters find good information!

Wayne and his buddy are out running Fire Dept. errands then will pick up his red truck which hopefully will be done. It has a caliper that is stuck and really scared our daughter when smoke was puffing out. She was ready to grab a fire extinguisher and go after the smoking area.

I am taking a short break before tackling more must-do housework. May have to drive the truck for picking up hay bales --- plans are to bale hay for his buddy. He and his GS are doing the manual labor, should be interesting since his GS is a city boy! It is a second cutting this year, which is great since we can supply some for other folks in addition to ourselves.

My horse has shown signs of aging. His back is a bit swayed but not bad. At 23 he is in good shape. They are just overfed, lazy pests -- er - pets!

Must get back to work. See you later.

Bummer on the clogged drain, Ann. I hope it isn't very serious. The first thing that came to mind was an easy comforting meal I make. Macaroni, Beef, Tomato Cheese Casserole/saved There are many easy beef casseroles and other meals you can search in here. Don't work too hard at work.

Don, Enjoy your jaunt on the beach. I am still envious!

Marie, There is a good ancestry site that is free and run by the Mormons. I will look it up for you. Lol I feel like a kid when I am in a car wash too!

Janet, I know what you mean about being overwhelmed when searching for ancestors and then putting it all down and getting it in correct order. I go at it for awhile then leave it alone. I am looking for a good program to buy or if it is free it would be better:)

Karen, Good luck with your housework and it is always good to have extra bales of hay. How long do horses usually live?

I did everything and then some yesterday afternoon and I am relieved it is all done. We had pork chops with pomegranate balsamic vinegar and it was fantastic! We also had fresh waxed beans with new potatoes. Tonight we are having chicken something and definitely corn on the cob. I was going to try doing the corn on the cob in the microwave but I discovered the cobs are too big to put in there to try it that way!

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Googled Fuengirola Don! How beautiful! I'm not a beer drinker but totally envy you the Tapas. My hubby and I are actually heading to a Tapas restaurant for dinner tomorrow night. Won't be as scenic as your locale but it will taste good! :) Saw a pic of Sohail Castle, Gorgeous!
    Have decided to make
Chicken Green Chili Burgers Wguacamole Topping
for dinner this evening and maybe a potato salad on the side? Just back from visiting my girlfriend and also ran into my old hairdresser on the way home. Have an appointment with her tomorrow. Yay.
You can join Ancestry.com for a free 14 day trial as long as you remember to cancel your subscription before the 14 days runs out and they bill you Marie. I'm sure there's other genealogy sites but Ancestry is the one I know about. It's humbling to see where your ancestors from and gives one a sense of pride to see how their family has made their way in the world. ROFL at your throwing a fit your first day of Kindergarten. LOLOLOL. Made me laugh. FSW from an early age eh? :)
I have housework needing to be done here as well Karen but it's not gonna happen for a couple of days at least. Your horse has made it to a good old age. He's allowed to have a bit of a sway to his back. :)
Wow on Caiden being in school all day in Kindergarten Michelle! That's awesome that Bri is so enamoured with her teachers. :)
I am familiar with "Find-a-grave" Joce. I have SO much uploading to do to Ancestry and to keep track of info in my own documents I think I'll have to wait to upload gravestones onto their site, but perhaps one day when things are quieter. :) Thank you for telling me about Macfamilytree7. I'll look into it. I actually managed to get awesome prices for our trip to Taipei. $1025 each round trip. That's cheaper than we payed when we went last April. I don't think I'd ever go visit Benjamin more than once a year. It just takes SO long on the plane so you need to wait a year until you start to remember how horrible the trip is before you're willing to sign up to do it again. :) Yum on your stuffed pork tenderloin last night. I LOVE that recipe.
Cool on your family tree research as well Shona. It's fun eh! Neat on having some Russians in your background! Nice on the fresh corn and potatoes for you yesterday!
    Hi Laurie!
    Tina? Come back.
My girlfriend gave me three pots full of plants she culled from her garden. Have to go get them into the ground.

SP Janet:) Thanks for the Ancestry.com info..I would probably forget to cancel it..when I get some "time" I want to sit at the computer and maybe try both sites and see what I come up with..I need to talk to Mom & Dad and try to get some names of our ancestors, see how far back we can go..
Oh hell yeah, FSW started out at a very early age..unbelieveable, isn't it:-D

Hi all! Hope you figure out something for dinner Ann! All the suggested recipes sound good to me! I'll see what I can find here in a minute too.

Yum on tapas and beer Don!

Cool that you are finding so much info about your Ancestors Janet! Yum on your dinner, those burgers are delicious! That's good your plane tickets are cheaper Janet. Ugh on the plane ride though, how long is it and how many layovers are there?

Yum on your dinner Marie, jalapenos do make everything better, just like bacon :) Lol at FSW in kindergarten :P

Hope Wayne get's his truck back Karen!

Wow you pork chops from last night sounds delicious for sure Joce! I always forget you can microwave corn, could you just cut the cobs in half?

Ended up making http://allrecipes.com/recipe/coconut-jerk-chicken/detail.aspx and it was SO GOOD! Served it with a side of steamed green beans. Bri has softball tonight and I think we are going to have leftovers of last night and we also have leftover of the “spaghetti” and meatballs as well. Leaving here in a bit to pick up Caiden. He wants to ride the bus but I told him he has to wait until Monday. I just think he needs to get used to one thing at a time and take it slow. I'm still trying to get him to remember where his class room is! Hope everyone is having a great day!

Marie, it's SOOOO important to talk to those still connected with knowledge of our past history before they're gone. For whatever reason we never seem to be as interested or have enough time, etc. when we're younger and then sometimes there's not a lot of people left to answer the questions that we then do think of!
    Yep Joce....all in.
Michelle, we fly Ottawa, Chicago, Tokyo, Taipei and same on the way back. Total trip is 25 hours and some odd minutes. We've got about a three hour layover in Chicago and Tokyo. We arrive very BAFFED. :) Me especially since for whatever reason....I no longer am able to sleep a wink on the plane.
Awwww on Caiden wanting to ride the bus. How cute is that? Does he have friends close by that will be on the bus as well? He'll work out everything. Sometimes it's us Moms that get more frazzled by anticipating things. :)
Think I'll skip the potato salad side. Have a big crop of tomatoes that I just harvested from the garden so we'll eat some of those.
Stupid black caterpillars are eating my licorice plants in my flower barrels again. That's the second time this year. Planted 40-50 iris bulbs and some Mums. Have more irises to plant tomorrow.

Wow~what a bunch of great ideas!! Don - I sure wish I was with you and having tapas and beer! Well, at first I wasn't going to admit this, but when I got home, I see my ground beef is not ground beef at all but beef for stew! Guess that shows how well I read my package when I pulled it out of the freezer. Anyways - I've started a Southwestern Beef Stew from a cook book I have. I didn't have the jalapeno pepper so I just subbed some dry red pepper flakes. It is smelling delicious and I'll make some buttermilk biscuits to go with it so all will be fine. It's even cool today - mid 60's.

Chuckieb - I sure hope I did not jump in and take over somebody else's "job" here by starting this thread! If I did, I apologize and please let me know if I did so I don't do it again. I'm a newbie here and don't want to upset the apple cart.

I'm definitely going to keep these great suggestions in mind for when I actually have ground beef pulled out. lol Thanks everyone!!

That's nice that Bri is on the same bus as Caiden Michelle. We are pretty near the peak of our tomato season although it'll go for awhile yet. I am appreciative for the bounty that's for sure. :)
Your Southwestern Beef stew sounds yummy Ann. Goodness no....you didn't take over anyone's job by starting the thread this morning. I was genuine when I said I was very pleased to see you had. Whoever is up first (or even sometimes those who are up in the middle of the night and can't sleep) start the thread. The more the merrier honestly! :)
Yep Marie....grab every single nugget of info you can. Even if you don't do anything with it right now, you'll have it for when you do have more time.
Got the burgers prepped. Goodness the day went by in a flash!

    Hi everyone!
Fish tacos for dinner tonight with rice and green beans.
My stomach is feeling funky. My coworker brought us all frosty's from Wendy's and I ate about 2/3rds and my stomach has been feeling pretty funky ever since. They must make it with a lot of cream or something! And geez I thought that it wouldn't be that bad then I looked up the calories and got even sicker the small has 320 calories! I'll stick with my mcdonalds cone for 150 thank you! Lol
I will run it off tomorrow Morning.
I usually only start the thread if I have a picture or something to post otherwise I wait for someone else :)

Fish tacos sound great! I haven't had a frosty in years! I'm not real big on any fast food, and the Mexican restaurant we own has a homemade ice cream shop in one corner of the building so that's my go-to ice cream! lol

Envying you those fish tacos Laurie. Num! Sorry to hear the Frosty didn't agree with you. (320 calories doesn't sound THAT bad, but then again I'm way not as diligent as you) :)
You guys are making me crave ice cream again. LOL.:)
