Ewwwwwwwwwww... that is just soooooooo gross!!! I was under the impression that possums carried rabies. Blah, blah, blah, now I feel as though I am going toss my cookies. Oh yuck. Honestly, I just ate dinner and it's on it's way up. Thanks OM for that bit of info. I'll get you, just wait and see. It might take me a few days but keep your wee eyes open ;-)

That is very weird!
By the way, you don't go out and catch possum...../you call a trapper and have him do it.
Of course then you probably have to gas him to get him out of the cage(have you seen their teeth when they're mad?).....then you'd have to bop him on the head.......then skin it, clean it......OMG just thinking about it makes you want to retch!
I'm sure there is a portion of the population that would find this recipe enticing though.......go figure!

My gal friend had a momma possum and her babies living under her bath tub. Momma crawled up the pipes and had her babies in the space between the wall and the tub. She could hear them scratching the cast iron when she took a bath. The exterminator had a dickens of a time getting them out. My precious Mr. Muffin got mauled by the possum that was living in the Phoenix Reclinata out front. The vet couldn't save him. We had to put Muffin down and we cried and cried for a month. I nearly cut down the palm; it is huge expensive specimen to try and get rid of the critter. But then we got Ollie, the JRT and he stalked and terrorized the possum out of the yard. Sorry, O-mamma, I'll pass on the possum stew.

OM, step away from the moonshine, you've been sampling it a bit too much!
On a lighter note, we were joking with the residents at work the other night that the soup that was being served for supper was Possum Stew, so this is just hilarious. Wait til I tell the girls at work, they will die laughing.

We got a family of possums living in our back yard. Brave little suckers. They like to sneak up and eat our cat's food during the summer. They freak me out. My cat just sits and stares at them. I think he's a bit freaked out himself.
Great post!

Okay, the possum thing has everyone one twitching =D Your tooo funny and I just love Granny so plus one for you. . .Yay! Nothing like a little roadkill for dinner. . .and possum is one of Granny's favorites! I'm a country girl and we had possum in our garbage cans more times then I care to remember. They could climb in under the lid but could never get how to climb out! Nothing like Mom telling you to take the garbage out before going to school and stumbling outside to do this lovely deed only to be welcomed by lots of hissing and bare, pointy teeth! Wakes you right up! Better then any coffee you could buy =D

Hmmm, well I do like sweet potatoes - though we don't have possums in these parts - and I think I'd like a vegetarian version of this recipe better ;-)
