  • 1 cup sugar
  • Filling:
  • 400 grams walnuts, crushed

  • 3 cups syrup, recipe follows:
  • Syrup:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • few lemon drops
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

Directions
  1. Make the syrup first:
  2. Heat sugar and water over medium heat till sugar is dissolved, then boil for 8-9 minutes add the lemon juice and let it cool. Syrup will thicken while cooling.
  3. Rub flour and ghee or butter; add Mahlab or the kind of spice you use and half of the sugar .Make a hole in the center of the batter; pour in the milk, mix all till batter is holding it’s shape. Mix filling ingredients with the rest of the sugar.
  4. Sprinkle some flour over the work surface, roll out the dough over it to a ½ inch thick, cut with a rounded cookie cutter. Place a little of the filling on each circle of dough and fold the circles into two. Use a small fork to seal the edges of each piece.

This is the winner, only because of the raisins in the other one. Thanks for sharing them both!
They look wonderful!

I love the looks of these...Im going to bookmark it for later...King of the desserts..is you!!

This recipe is bookmarked for sure. I can't wait to make these and I know my husband will be in the kitchen waiting to sample. I was just wondering if they would be good with the filling addition of mashed dates. This idea just popped into my mind and I thought they would be quite tasty prepared that way. Please let me know what you think.

Ahmed, if you didn't have those lovely photos posted with your avatar I'd ask if you're not actually a Jewish mother!! A Jordanian friend of ours and I have often shared our similarities and delighted in them. How delightful to find these common recipes with you in Egypt.

Universal pleasures of good food shared with favorite people are indeed wonderful. I am enjoying your contributions to the site. Once I unpack from moving I look forward to trying some of your recipes.
