I am having a hard time finding a Maid-Rite recipe that hits the nail on the head. So many are very close to other Maid-Rite's. I am really hoping to get that perfect one☆☆☆☆☆

NO ! NO ! NO ! you got it all wrong ! I got THE recipe !
2 pounds 90 percent ground beef
1 medium red onion fine chopped cooked with the burger
    cook till no longer pink
    drain off extra fat...if any
    to pan add:
    1/3 cup brown sugar
    1/3 cup white vinegar
    2/3 cup cold water
    1/2 cup ketchup
    2 tablespoons prepared mustard

bring to a boil and thicken with 2 table spoons ( or more if you want it thicker ) flour

The reason they are SOOOOOOO good at the MADE RITE in Marshaltown is they grind the WHOLE COW, steaks and all

Lived on Taylor's Made-Rites as a kid living in Marshalltown, Iowa. I think I'll make them tonight for the wife and I!

Yes, Maid-Rites are from the Midwest - Muscatine, IA, to be exact. They are still popular here, and it's very hard to find the exact recipe. My MIL worked there many, many years ago, and even she never got the recipe. We continue to try.

I still cannot believe they put ketchup on the counters after all these years (1928) of not having them at Taylor's Maid-Rite. I purchased the video and cookbook "Sandwiches That You Will Like" after viewing it on PBS a few years ago, so I am going to have to try to make these sooner or later.

I have never had one, but my best friend (Forrest Gump) is from Iowa and always talks about these loose meat sandwiches and how our beef in Seattle does not taste the same, may surprise him and my son this weekend and make some of these.

    Thanks for posting this recipe!~!!

    Be well,
    Annie

Yea! Maid rite--it is from the midwest. I get teased all the time when I call a loosemeat/sloppyjoe/tavern a maid rite. Good to see it in print.... :)

This must be Roseanne Barr's definition of a loose meat sandwich! Never heard of Maid Rite...am guessing it's a mid-west company. The secret must be in the worcestershire sauce!
