Ingredients

How to make it

  • Per the pics, spread mayo and mustard edge to edge. Always my way, no dry spots.
  • First, lettuce on both sides, then a slice of Bologna then lettuce, then Bologna up to as many layers as you like.
  • Sometimes when it is a little tall, you have to take your hand and smoosh it down. A little mass compression I call it.
  • Once flatten, it can be cut in half, grab some chips, a cold drink and lunch is served. Just good old stuff that still works.
  • Painting the day I made this, guess it shows!

In the 60s and 70s, during the summer my brother and I would go to the neighborhood grocery and get 25 cents worth of bologna sliced fresh! That was enough bologna for my dad, my brother and me to eat for lunch!! I would eat 2 sandwiches. I'd make each with 2 slices of the brand " Frey " bologna, Blue Plate mayonnaise and Sunbeam bread. Oh and a Pepsi! I always say, to me eating bologna is like eating a steak dinner, it's that good!!

Hey JJ, this one was listed under Trends so I came to check it out. I loved these when growing up. Every friday we went to town for groceries and we would stop by our local country store to get my weekly treat, moon pie and RC soda and the big thick slices of Bologna and a big hunk of hoop cheese. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

    gm,
Mine was on Wonder white with cheese. After it was made, I'd just press it down with my entire hand to make it flat and then just take itty bitty bites! Thanks.

Yea, not often anymore either, just was doing a lot of painting recently and it sounded good and was easy to make. Ketchup and bologna, that is different. Understand the fried thing, is that with toasted bread? Might have to, live now, buy a pack or get a couple of slices from the deli. Hey we all know how to spell bologna, Oscar Mayer taught us with the TV ad :-)

I don't eat bologna but maybe once a year anymore but used to of course. Always ate it like this: Cold: White bread, ketchup and potato chips, smooshed down. Fried: Thick sliced bologna, wheat bread and mustard. Mmmm mmm! Dang it JJ, I just might have to go buy a package.

I still would do the white bread, I just buy the Cracked Wheat now, love its flavor. Can't stand what they sell called "Wheat", tastes like cardboard. I know the chip thing in the sandwich, great comment here to add, nice. JJ

Love it JJ! Right along with the Diet Drink! Now me.. I have to put my chips on the sandwich.. and scoosh it all down! When helping on the farm bailing hay.. this was the lunch meal often! Sad to say, I still like it! When first moving to Texas.. the bologna was awful! I would have people "import" it for me from up north. They finally started carring the good stuff!

Great sandwich! But I have to disagree with the bread choice. Has ta be white bread -the softer, the better. Like Krumkake said, sticking to the roof of your mouth. :')
