Ingredients

How to make it

  • In a small saucepan, melt first three ingredients, over moderate heat, stirring until smooth
  • Pour into lightly greased 13x9 glass baking dish.
  • Cut 6-8 1" thick slices of bread and trim crusts. Do not use ends.
  • Arrange bread slices in one layer in baking dish, squeezing them slightly to fit if necessary.
  • In a bowl, whisk eggs, half & half and vanilla until mixed well and pour evenly over bread.
  • Cover and chill overnight.
  • Before baking, remove and let set until back to room temperature.
  • Uncover, and bake 40 minutes at 350* until edges are puffed and pale golden.

    I have a simple Q. which any one of u can answer. What is half & half ? If I can't get it locally is there any other substitute that I can use.

    Question: You say to cut off the crusts, but I still see them on the bread in the picture. Is this just a guideline? Even still, I want to just reach through the screen, pluck this out and eat it. None for you! All mine! lol

    I found this recipe on epicurious.com and made it this weekend. I'm 47 and this is the aboslute best French Toast I have ever had! It is so easy and terribly sinful. I'm giving you a 5 of course. I was going to share it on the site, but you beat me to it. I'd recommend this to anyone.
