Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 3 160C/325F.
  • In a pan, melt together the margarine, sugar and treacle. See Photo
  • Add the flour, ginger, mixed spice and baking soda. Mix all together. See Photo
  • Add the eggs and the boiling water. Mix in.
  • Put in a greased loaf tin lined with greased baking paper, and bake for 55 minutes. See Photo

    hi conner, can I get back to you on this? I just posted an answer to your query but the site logged me out and it hasn't appeared. Suffice it to say I don't think it is blackstrap (there are apparently three different grades of molasses which I didn't know!) I will try to find out more and get back to you tomorrow!

    Thanks for the farenheit directions. We yanks (at least THIS one!) don't do too well with those intricate calculations to convert centigrade. Sounds delish!
