Ingredients

How to make it

  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, Crisco, sugar and extract.
  • Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  • Mix dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture alternately with bananas and sour cream (or buttermilk).
  • Grease 18 muffin tins (or line tins with cupcake liners); fill tins 3/4 full (I always get exactly 18 out of this recipe).
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.
  • Cool and frost. One frosting option is listed below, but the pictured cupcake is frosted with cream cheese frosting.
  • Brown Sugar Frosting:
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons whole milk or half and half
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Combine brown sugar, milk and butter in saucepan; bring to a boil. Remove pan from heat; beat in enough powdered sugar to make frosting spreadable; beat in vanilla.

These are the most delicious cupcakes around!! One of the kids liked them without any frosting at all...the other fell in love with the brown sugar frosting included with the recipe...Word of warning, if you are using that brown sugar frosting recipe - better frost quickly as the frosting hardens as it cools and does not spread well at that point...If making a double batch, you will need some extra hands to frost cupcakes before the frosting mixture hardens....

Absolutely delicious recipe! I added a photo of my try at this recipe and the cupcakes were a WINNER! I used a caramel cream cheese frosting with caramel drizzles and everyone loved them! Thank you for sharing this recipe.

I came across this recipe while I was leaving a message on your homepage. I love cupcakes. I think I'll make half the batch with cream cheese frosting and the other half with caramel frosting. Thanks for posting. :)
