Ingredients
  • 4 bananas, medium ripe (just a very few brown speckles)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream
  • 2 tablespoons dark rum
  • Whipped cream, optional

Directions
  1. Peel bananas and cut them in half lengthwise.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over low heat.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar, blending well.
  4. Lay the banana halves in the skillet and sauté until bananas are tender, about 10 minutes, turning them once.
  5. In a medium bowl, soften the ice cream (I usually just put it in the microwave for about 15 or 20 seconds – until I can stir it with a spoon but it is still thick).
  6. Stir rum into the softened ice cream.
  7. To serve, place 2 banana halves on each plate; top with brown sugar glaze from the pan. Drizzle with ice cream sauce. Top with whipped cream, if desired. Serve immediately.
  8. NOTE: For non-alcoholic topping, just add a tablespoon of vanilla extract, or any other flavoring/extract you would like, instead of the rum.

This sounds kinda like a bananas foster.... Yummmy for the Tummy.....

My whole family will love this...forget that "non-alcohol" topping, I'll do it just like you said...thanks!

This is kind of like a banana foster which was made famous at Brennan's in New Orleans. They do it tableside and sometimes the whole place is almost in flames was waiters do their show-off trick. If you haven't had bananas foster, you've got to try it. The rum is flamed, whcih caramelizes the sugars and will send you into heaven. I posted the Brennan's recipe some time back. I like this recipe for being quick and easy. Good post.

WOW!!! It looks so wonderful and easy to make.

Wow Wow Wow. Will be maing this one tonight. Sounds fabulous.

Whipped cream is never optional...

I agree wtih Organicmama! Whipped cream is a necessity! This sounds really yummy and thanks for posting it for us! Now I have to run out and buy some bananas!

Yummy, I love the bananas in rum idea...I can't figure out if it is the banana or the rum that is the attraction. LOL
