Ingredients

How to make it

  • Peel bananas and cut them in half lengthwise.
  • In a large skillet, melt butter over low heat.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, blending well.
  • Lay the banana halves in the skillet and sauté until bananas are tender, about 10 minutes, turning them once.
  • In a medium bowl, soften the ice cream (I usually just put it in the microwave for about 15 or 20 seconds – until I can stir it with a spoon but it is still thick).
  • Stir rum into the softened ice cream.
  • To serve, place 2 banana halves on each plate; top with brown sugar glaze from the pan. Drizzle with ice cream sauce. Top with whipped cream, if desired. Serve immediately.
  • NOTE: For non-alcoholic topping, just add a tablespoon of vanilla extract, or any other flavoring/extract you would like, instead of the rum.

Yummy, I love the bananas in rum idea...I can't figure out if it is the banana or the rum that is the attraction. LOL

This is kind of like a banana foster which was made famous at Brennan's in New Orleans. They do it tableside and sometimes the whole place is almost in flames was waiters do their show-off trick. If you haven't had bananas foster, you've got to try it. The rum is flamed, whcih caramelizes the sugars and will send you into heaven. I posted the Brennan's recipe some time back. I like this recipe for being quick and easy. Good post.
