Make breakfast a little more interesting fo kids of any age between 3 & 99. so easy too. Great idea for those left-over slices of bread.

Ingredients
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 slice of bread
  • a little Butter, (or margarine)

Directions
  1. Put bread on cutting board and place an empty glass upside down on top of it
  2. With a slow circular movement, press glass down until it cuts through the slice. (you can use a knife but this is rounder and also fun for kids)
  3. Melt Butter and then place the bread in pan with centre ring on the side until both are golden brown
  4. Flip both of them over
  5. Put a tiny bit more Butter in hole and pour an Egg in the centre
  6. Dont worry if it overflows a little
  7. Cover pan for about another minute until white of egg has hardened enough
  8. Enjoy

I have been making these for over 20 years now. One little alterations is to use a cookie cutter for the hole, (the first time I did it, I used a heart shaped one and told my boys it was an "I love you" egg.)

My 12 year old makes these for his little brother in the microwave by toasting the bread first then buttering both sides, dropping the egg in the middle and microwaving for 1-1/2 minutes, watching carefully. These surprisingly turn out very close to doing in a pan without having to turn on the stove.

My grandmother made them for me and my son . He calls them the egg sunrise surprise. They are great.

I too have been making these for years. My children loved them when they were little. Thanks for the reminder as I haven't made them in a very long time.

We call it "toad in the hole"...and it's a family favorite! Got my 5!!!!!

We call it Egg in a Nest. They are great! I raised my kids on these.(so did my Mom) You get my 5!

"For kids" nothing, lol.

Did not find this until I was already growed up, but the kids enjoy them.

My dad use to call this the bull's eye breakfast. Yep, the kids love 'em and I've since heard them called other names as well. He use to toast the cut out circles on the unoiled pan and set them aside for the tops before adding the butter to fry the eggs in holes. My sister in law called them " peek-a-boo eggs ". That was a great recipe to share. :)

We call these eggs in a basket in my fam... fun and yummy, plus you have one extra step

I love these, eat them all the time, we call them bullseyes :)

We call 'em bird's nests :-) Love 'em.

Thanks for this memory this evening. I was just sitting here thinking of my father who passed away 11 years ago, long before I was ready to let go of him. This recipe brought back my dad making these for me as a young girl, what a lovely thought and memory, THANK YOU!!

My son thinks this is the greatest breakfast recipe ever!

Love and had forgotten about them. Off to make some for the family now. Thanks Ronny, Cheers, Mark
