This is NOT that ready-made thing that they call hot chocolate. Nor is it about taking a teaspoon of chocolate powder in some milk. This is about going back to the original mug of hot cocoa that kept our parents warm before the era of "processe... More

Once my daughter had real cocoa she refused all offers of that "other crap". Being who she is, though, she had to punk it up and I was treated to the most amazing combinations of cocoa and spices. Cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and, of all things, chili powder is my alltime favorite.

What a great idea to post this. I NEVER would have thought of it. It helps to mix the cocoa and sugar before you add the milk. The cocoa doesn't clump so easily. I also like to add a little vanilla extract.

Another original...but it's hitting 100 degrees here, so we'll be holding off on this preparation...back to the ice water for me, though you never cleared up my confusion on that! :)
Also, for those who indulge, peppermint, butterscotch, orange or cherry flavored liquors are great add-ins, too.

Yes....so good...and the little touch of vanilla is a must for me.
My mom made this by the kettle-full when we had 15-20 friends over for sled riding parties. There's NOTHING like the real thing!!!

Nice! I love the directions Ronny. It nice to know someone appreciates a good cup of cocoa. It is hard to believe that people will settle for a packet of preservatives in water instead of the real thing. Thanks for keeping it "real".

I made this but I left out everything except the Brandy. It's very hot in Connecticut and I will try this when we cool down. YOU bring out the devilishness in all of us! How's the weather???

Ronny three cheers for getting us back to making simple hot cocoa the way it aught to be made. My parents always made cocoa this way and I have carried on the tradition at my home as well.
