This is definetely a yummy cake! The saurkraut was always around since I am part Polish, Italian and Croatian. Seems like a staple item at our house when I was growing up. My mom would make this cake and we thought she was "full of baloney" by telling us what was in it. I guess we were thinking about polish sausage to go in the cake as well...I don't know! LOL Jett

Sauerkraut cake, what a great idea - thanks! I'm more into kimchi than sauerkraut, though I don't think kimchi would work as well here ;-)

I can't believe it! Just what I was looking for. Can't wait to give it a try. I have tasted a cake like this and loved it but didn't have the recipe. Have you ever heard of a Chocolate Prune Cake? Happy Baking! Thanks again.

My husband is crazy for this cake. His mother made it for years! He was delighted when I found it-so my next sourkraut purchase will be for this cake. He said it's the closest thing to chocolate heaven that there is...Thanks so much!

I have never used sauerkraut in a cake before, but have seen it. Yours looks so good that it will just have to be an attempt soon. I love
chocolate anything, and your cake looks very tempting to say the least.

I LOVE sauerkraut and I LOVE chocolate cakes made with cocoa. I had this recipe and lost it so I thank you very much OmaShirley.
P.S. This really is a pic of me back in 1997 when I taught behavioral and learning disabled / challenged students in High School.

    Shirley,
This looks so good, but I can't stand sauerkraut, does it tastes like sauerkraut after it's baked? Just looking for something other than coconut and if it doesn't taste like sauerkraut, it may work.

Just saw this picture when I was on your homepage, Shirleyoma, so of course I had to check it out. That looks DEVINE and sounds a bit weird, but that's exactly why I MUST try it!! We all love kraut here, so I think it will be wonderful and moist...I will let you know (I won't be baking until the summer heat ends, darn).
