Chocolate Sourkrout Cake

- 2 1/4 c. flour shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 1 tsp. baking powder shopping list
- 1 1/2 c. sugar shopping list
- 2/3 c. shortening shopping list
- 3 eggs shopping list
- 1 1/4 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa shopping list
- 1 c. water shopping list
- 1 c. sauerkraut, rinsed, drained and chopped shopping list
How to make it
- Sift together flour, baking soda and baking powder, set aside. Cream sugar
- and shortening, add eggs, mix well, then add vanilla, salt and cocoa. Mix well.
- Alternately add flour mixture and water. Add sauerkraut. Bake in greased and
- floured pan. For two or 3, 8 inch square pans, bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
- For 1 Bundt pan or angel food pan, bake 45-50 minutes at 375 degrees.
- TOPPINGS:
- May spread with favorite icinc. I use White Buttercrean or 7 min, or Thickened whipped
- cream.

My mother used to make this and I have been threatening my Husband for a number of years that I would make it for him.. he HATES sauerkraut. Mean aren't I??? This is the moistest cake, and the 'kraut chopped up superfine reminds one of coconut ! Go ...more
