Ingredients

How to make it

  • preheat oven to 450 degrees
  • Bring one quart of cold water to a boil and cook the macaroni to the al dente stage, you want them firm because you are baking it longer, stir it occasionally to keep from sticking.
  • DO NOT DRAIN.
  • You will need the residual water in the pan, most of it will be absorbed at this point anyway.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Place mixture in a buttered casserole and bake in the very hot oven for 35 to 40 minutes until the top is lightly browned.
  • Allow to rest at least 10 minutes before attempting to eat, it will be very very hot.

Has the mac 'n cheese flavor but is a little grainy in the cheese.
See Macaroni Pie Memas Favorite for more mental mastications.

This is AMAZING!!! Beyond what I expected. I am so happy to have found this recipe of yours, thanks so much for sharing it. I did end up cooking it on 350 for about an hour and as you said, it did have a bit of liquid to it - so next time I will do it true to exactly how you have it written. But it was still excellent and we enjoyed it for a couple days which was SO nice and my mom even got to taste it and she was blown away too. I could go on & on about this.. Thank you! oh, and my pic wasn't very attractive so I decided to trash it - will get a better one next time.

Tina, do you think the results would be drastically different if I lowered the temp to 350 & increased the baking time a bit? I want to put it in the oven with meatloaf. Thanks!

I'm interested in this because it doesn't use a white sauce, no flour. I guess it doesn't need it because of the starchy water from the macaroni. I'm definitely going to try.

The recipes handed down without any written measurements are always the best ones

This does look very unique and good! My homemade mac and cheese doesn't come out real good, so it's nice to find a good recipe.
