Ingredients

How to make it

  • Pour peas into colander and drain. Reserve about a cup of liquid, (you probably will not need this much, just in case your sauce is too thick. (also adds a nice flavor)
  • Using sauce pan melt butter over medium heat and stir in flour.Stir until very smooth. Gradually add milk and half & half stirring constantly until thick and creamy.
  • Stir in sugar, salt and peas.
  • This is fabulous over mashed potatoes in place of gravy. (Great with chicken, roast beef, meat loaf and more!)
  • DID I SAY FABULOUS OVER MASHED POTATOES..OH I DID..:-)

Ah, this brings back memories. We love this stuff. I often add cubed ham and serve it over biscuits. It was a standard Sunday night supper with Mema and Nana. Yummy.

LeSueur peas bring back memories because that is all my now 84 yr. old father would eat when we were growing up. That has put me more in the frozen pea camp since then, but this sounds like something my veggie loving grandkids would love. Thanks!

I've never seen cans of creamed peas in the store. Do you think this recipe would work even without them? Like if I just made the white sauce and put in the cans of regular peas...?

Hmmmm... i'll have to experiment. This sounds really good and I'd like to try it. (just don;t have access to the cans of creamed peas)

    Thanks for sharing! :)

Edited to add: OMG. I just realized that you didn't mean add in cans of "Lana's LeSuer Creamed Peas." You meant that as the name of the recipe! LOL. Just cuz it was under the "ingredients" list I got all confused... haha. Whoops.

Sounds great; my mom has made this too with the baby red potatoes as Shandy posted. So good - a real comforting dish. I could eat this with potatoes all by itself as a meal. Yum!

Boy does this bring back memories! Mom used to make this at least once a week, often on a Sunday evening. It was one of Dad's favorite meals, only he loved it served on Mom's homemade bread cut in thick slices and slathered with her homemade butter. She would also make it with corn which I preferred, but I think the peas were Dad's favorite so that is what we usually had. Thanks for the memory.

My grandma used to make a similiar dish but with baby potatoes added to the mix. I love your idea of pouring this over mashed potatoes. . . a definite must try =D

Grew up in Mankato - passed the Jolly Green guy a thousand times in my day! There is NO BETTER pea for creamed peas thatn LeSueur Green Giant Young (or Early, or whatever they're called) tiny peas!!! We add tuna, or salmon, or cubed baked potatoes sometimes...great "stick to your ribs" kinda food - mmmmm...thanks for making me hungry as I'm getting ready to head up to bed!
