Ingredients

How to make it

  • Combine meat, beef stock, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, 1t nutmeg, 2t Dijon and eggs together.
  • Form into about 1 inch meatballs and brown lightly in olive oil and butter.
  • About halfway through browning, add mushrooms, garlic and onion and finish browning.
  • When done, remove them from pan with slotted spoon and place them in a 9X13 dish.
  • In browning pan, add flour to drippings and stir on low heat to make a roux.
  • Add chicken stock and stir til thickens.
  • Add 2t nutmeg and salt and pepper, remaining Dijon and half and half and stir to combine and thicken
  • Pour over meatballs and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.
  • Serve over cooked egg noodles.
  • **this can also be made as a casserole by slightly undercooking the noodles and placing them in a large casserole dish, then the meatballs, then the cream mixture and bake about the same time. Add a couple T more of chicken stock if you do it this way, though.

Swedish Meatballs This was very good , and a do over for sure . I did it all stove top , instead of baking , and it worked out perfectly . I used all beef broth , as we had no chicken broth . Tasted just fine . I will make it again with the chicken broth .

YAY! I am so glad to find this recipe...I just knew you had one, lol! Hubby requested Swedish Meatballs, which I have never made before and I looked through AR and all of theirs had cream of soups, which I didn't want, so I thought to myself that I would come here and hopefully track down your recipe...YAY!!!! I'm so excited to try this...just printed it out and will give it a go I think on Sun. Thanks, Keni...I miss seeing/talking to you...hugs! :)

Delicious recipe, Keni! Made this a few nights ago, and we loved it- the meatballs were very moist :) I used all chicken stock, and added a touch of cloves and cinnamon as well as the nutmeg. I think next time, I will make more sauce ;) Added my photo.

We enjoyed this a lot! The meatballs are fantastic! Loved the creaminess of the sauce, similar to a gravy and the flavor the fresh nutmeg gave the dish. Next time I make this I think I'm gonna try the casserole method and see how it turns out! Thanks Keni!

Good job. Good meatballs. Forgot to add S&P to the sauce. Added while eating. Put it over Vermicelli.

I'm going to have 2tsp dijon left over. Where does it go in the recipe?

Ingredients call for 2tsp nutmeg. Instructions call for 3tsp nutmeg. Which is correct?

This was very good! I would add more chicken stock to the sauce though next time and increase the nutmeg just a bit.

Everyone enjoyed this dish very much. Personally, I prefer more sauce & nutmeg flavor, so I'll increase those next time this is made. The cooking method produced very tender meatballs. I highly recommend this dish. Thanks for your recipe, Keni!

Keni, I just made these, wow they are good. The nutmeg adds a nice flavor and the sauce came out nice and thick. I doubled the sauce by the way. Thanks. Still waiting on some recipes for my pans :-)
